WARNING: Mr. Lube on Main st.

I don't have full details yet as I am awaiting the service report from Mercedez Benz dealership but as of right now my mom's ML320 is messed!

First of all, yes I acknowledge she screwed up. She went ghetto and decided to get her service done at Mr. Lube because some "SPECIAL" sign caught her eye. Something along the lines of "$100 Supreme Service Package" or whatever. Normally she just goes back to the dealership to get it done but the car is like 11 years old so she didn't feel like paying so much for such an old car. What a huge mistake!

Apparently 3 days after she got her service done there, lights in the car went on, like Brake System and the dreaded CE light. So she didn't know what to do and took it back to MB.

MB checked it all out and found out that they put the fluid in the wrong tank?! ... not sure what it is yet as I missed the details that he was telling my mom. I believe it was engine oil into the brake fluid tank?... Apparently that mishap totally crashed the entire brake system and all the electricals involved. Repairs might cost somewhere around 5-9k, to save the couple hundred difference getting it done at MB now there's this huge headache.

She went to ICBC to see if there's anything that can be done. ICBC said nope, (why am I not surprised) nothing can be done. Since the receipt from Mr. Lube did not state that any fluids were filled in the servicing process there isn't any solid evidence to prove it was Mr. Lube that screwed up.
They sent investigaters to that shop and the shop (obviously) denied the claim. Do you guys think a Lawyer could help in this situation?

Instead ICBC was trying to fault it to my mom asking her retarded questions like
"Do you know anybody that you pissed off that would play a prank on you?"
"Are you sure you didn't do any engine work after you took it away from Mr Lube?"... incredible!

She doesn't even know HOW to open the hood!... what stupid questions. A prank where they pry open the hood & fill bad fluid?! ... wouldn't it be easier to do that to the gas pump or just... key the car or break a window?... so dumb.. *sigh* What reason would there be to even think my mom would have enemies haha man what a moron...

I'll fill in more details when I get the report from MB...
Another question, would it be better to get it repaired and sell it or trade it in straight up? Would dealership dock off the most money for the damage?

Main point of this post is, STAY AWAY FROM THAT MR. LUBE, DAMN IDIOTS! Who know NOTHING! If I had evidence I would sue them for everything! Not that they have much..
(but I assume more people on RS already know not to visit any car-related shops around Main & Kingsway area)

Time for car shopping!

well i work at a mr lube, i've worked with Tofu as well

they don't touch brake fluid soo. it'd be a MAJOR fuck up if youre mom's brake system is fucked.

but yea you should talk to the manager and sue if you can. they'll probably pay for the damages.

Wow... shitty deal... but it's true that I think it's going to be really difficult to prove definitively that they did it.

Doesn't make any sense to me. I'd like to see Mercedes explanation as to why you need that much work. I've repaired countless cars where people have mixed fluids up before - it's not that big a deal unless you do something really dumb like use coolant to fill your engine instead of oil.

I'd also like to know how they put oil into the brake fluid reservoir considering a) the location of the filler cap for each and b) the small size of the brake fluid reservoir (only holds about 1/4 litre). Not only that, but the brake reservoir should have been close to full anyway, meaning they would have only been able to add a very small amount of fluid. There's also no "drain" for them to empty the brake reservoir, limiting how much oil they could actually add.

Further, the brake fluid only goes down as the brakes wear out. It's not like engine oil where it's constantly "circulating". I doubt in that short of time that the fluid managed to work its way through the braking system (for example, the ABS pump). And I'd put money that no oil ever made it as far as your brake calipers.

I'm also wondering why they say it "messed up the electricals". I'd like to know what "electricals" on an ML320 would be affected by oil in the brake reservoir (I work on Mercedes quite often).

I'll check Mercedes data for your vehicle and how the ABS system works, but something doesn't add up to me.

My sentiments exactly, eric. Even for a brand new technician, it'd be almost impossible to mix up the engine oil cap and brake fluid reservoir, not to mention the fact that putting a couple ounces of motor oil is a far cry from a few liters that's required to an oil change. Honestly, ICBC is right to question the validity of your moms claim against Mr Lube.

FYI, motor oil will swell and damage brake seals. So the master cylinder is probably bad, but components further down the lines will be less likely to have been damaged. The chance your ABS modulator is damaged is not very likely and it's practically impossible your calipers are damaged.

The fluid just doesn't travel that fast in only a few days of driving, especially given the length of brake lines from the master to the ABS unit.

Maybe the ABS module crap out after the oil change, or physical damage to the unit, spilling chemicals on the module, bumped the connector etc. With all the modules interconnected and talking to each other, one going down can easily cut off/screw up communication between others. Seen that on some Audis before where a bad ABS module causes other modules to throw random codes.

whole thing just doesnt add up, even if oil was added into the break reservoir, it wouldnt even be that much and it can't really do that big of a damage in such a short time either

Doesn't matter if it's a Benz or hyundai. The differences between the two filler caps and locations are horribly obvious.
