The patient is a 17-year-old male high school student in Yokohama, who stayed in British Columbia, Canada, on a school excursion from April 10 to 25, according to his school. Masuzoe added it may take one or two more days to find out whether he is really infected with the new strain of the influenza subtype H1N1.
The boy underwent a medical checkup on Thursday, during which he tested positive for the type A influenza in a preliminary examination, and has developed a fever, cough and phlegm, Masuzoe told a hastily called press conference in the early hours of Friday.
