There's a not unpopular school of thought that suggests there are benefits to mounting directional tires backwards. TireRack has an article on it, but I'd hesitate to consider their findings unbiased. I believe the general theory is that it provides better grip at the expense of wet handling since water is funneled to the center of the tire. No, it was a company promo shoot that we were using Matt and his friends' cars for.
