I gotta side with the people saying for the R's 40k price tag, there are many better choices.. Bentley to BMW is a whole different comparison. Such a big price gap, not to mention the prestige. By your logic, why stop there? A Hyundai Sonata now has leather, heated seats, sunroof, back up cam, all the bells and whistles too. |

Anyways as to not throw it off topic too much. This thing was on some forged fiskes with R comp tires. Looked so mean and fun. http://distilleryimage3.instagram.co...3820455d_7.jpg |
Those huge wheels on the Phantom make it look like a 300C..money can't buy good taste. |

New? I could get an Audi A4, A5, TT, BMW 1 series, 3 series, Infiniti G37, Lexus IS, Mazda RX-8, Mercedes-Benz C-class coupe, Mini Cooper S/JCW, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Nissan 370Z, Subaru WRX, WRX STI. Almost all of which I would prefer to the Golf R. 40K can get a lot..dive into the world of 2-3 year old used cars and you can get a hell of a bang for your buck. Hell, even at 20K (for a late model used car) I could probably find something that equals the Golf R in terms of performance, quality of materials, and overall fit and finish. I've bought a lot of used cars at an even lower price point, so I've learned to squeeze every dollar out of my 5-10K. |

And for 40k you would be getting the slow, dog versions of A4, 1 series, 3 series, IS, C. Get your facts straight. And new to used is the stupidest argument ever. At 40k, NEW, you're comparing a Golf R to RX-8, 370z, EVO, STI. The RX-8 is slowest, not everyone wants a 5spd manual, which is all you get in the EVO (I'm assuming people looking to buy a sports car won't want a autotragic); which really leaves Golf R vs 370z vs STI. If you want awd, then its Golf R vs STI. My best friend of 20 years has a STI, so I drive that a lot. And it is a horrible place to be in compared to a Golf R. So at the end of the day, if you're looking at a NEW 40k awd toy, you either go for max performance with an STI, or sacrifice some performance for quality and comfort with the Golf R. Personally, I'd still buy a STI, but the Golf R is a close second. And it's not a far stretch at all to see why someone would buy a Golf R. |

For 40K you can just barely squeeze by in a new Accord Coupe V6 with Navi...That's about as nice as you will get imo. The Audi's and BMW's don't end up being a decent car until you get into the 45K + range and start getting actual features in the car. |
