The ultimate test to see if you're going for the brand or the style:

Would you consider it if it doesn't have a famous brand attached?

caramel604 05-10-2009 10:56 AM

i like it, something different

of course!

It could say rayban for all I care... and raybans are for old men.

raybans rock, gotta love the timeless wayfarers!

The Gucci's are nice. I already have a pair of Diors which are very low key and nothing flashy. I also have a old pair of salvatore ferragamos from 2003 with the rhinestones which are a bit flashy.

Who makes the LV glasses? If it's Luxotica, say no.

JSilver 05-10-2009 05:29 PM

I think they look fine IF you can pull them off.

Let's be honest here, I don't think you would remotely consider those glasses if they're from Costco or Walmart.

Most buyers pick them because they're from an expensive brand, LV, which people recognize.

Older men are wiser, they realize Rayban makes high quality glassware while LV makes premium leather goods. Patek Philippe makes good watches, not YSL or Prada.

Now, if you want to blow that kind of money on glasses, something like the following is way more cool, but then, it depends whether you want the style of a man or a boy/rock star-want-to-be.

Selima Optique

No, you didn’t misread the price tag. Yes, these glasses really cost four digits. But unlike the plastic frames you can pick up for a few hundred bucks at LensCrafters, these buffalo-horn glasses are made to grow old with you. Take it from designer Selima Salaun (try to imagine a charming French accent): “These are a bit more expensive, but when you have buffalo horn, it can be repaired, which you cannot do with plastic when it breaks.” The good news is that Selima Optique will repair your glasses if ever they should buckle; and if they’re feeling dull, bring them to a Selima Optique boutique in for a polish. “We soak the glasses in olive oil for twenty-four hours,” says Selima, “and then we heat them with a special process that uses the smoke of the flame.” As with a pair of raw denim jeans, all of this fussing ultimately makes for a highly individualized pair of glasses. “As you wear them for a year or two, the skin gives it a patina—it takes on a matte finish. Like good wine or an Hermès bag, they only get better with age.” Hell, they’re practically a bargain.

Buffalo-Horn Frames, $1,200

jsilver & halogodv2, exactly! just like anything fashion related it will work if you can pull it off, part of it is your look and the other is your swag and how you carry yourself.

observer, amongst the few that actually like these LV sunglasses i would get em because i like the style, not just because they are an LV product. those selima optiques are nice, picture wearing those with a fitted suit and similar colour shoes, thats not pimpin thats just fly fashion! hmmm, billionaires might even get their own custom designed glasses made, i wonder what Sir Richard Branson wears? while on the topic of expensive glasses, even other well known and common/popular brands have expensive glasses that are a bit too much for some to pull off. these are usually limited edition models and sell for a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollars.

ctsport, i think real pimps might go for something with more bling, like these luxuriators... they are to eyewear what vertu is to cell phones, an over excessive status symbol and fashion statement for young money and celebs. retail starts at $5k and goes up to $125k, check them out here, Luxuriator

skinnypupp, are we all jokes or does RS condone racism?

to each his own, but since you're asking for an opinion, i hate flashy clothes and accessories. honestly it just makes people look cheap, but whatever floats your boat. anything that has the brand name or logo spewed all over it is extremely tacky. those glasses dont even look good on reggie bush.

westcoastgsr 05-11-2009 11:53 PM

Just found this when I saw the picture of the glasses:

Well said!

Given two identical shirts, one with logo and one without, the one without is always classier.

Same with glasses. Some buy for fame and snobbish factor, others buy for quality, form follows function.

That's why you have men wearing gold and diamonds, yes, tacky is the word but it's all relative I suppose, depending on your experience and exposure to finer things in life.

Dear Editor: We were dismayed to see the cover of the May 2009 issue of XXL Magazine, which features a photo of Rick Ross wearing a pair of sunglasses prominently featuring counterfeit Louis Vuitton trademarks. Because the photo has generated considerable confusion among your readers and Louis Vuitton customers among others, we feel it is important to clarify several points. The first is that the sunglasses Mr. Ross is wearing were not made by Louis Vuitton, and in fact, are counterfeit. Louis Vuitton did not grant permission to Mr. Ross or to whoever did make the sunglasses to use our trademarks. The second is that no affiliation, sponsorship or association exists between Rick Ross or XXL and Louis Vuitton. The third is that counterfeiting is illegal. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to correct the confusion. Sincerely, Michael D. Pantalony, Esq. Louis Vuitton Malletier

Yea, those are two completely different pairs of sunglasses, was thinking about buying the LV evidence a couple of months back, but couldn't talk myself into buying $800 sunglasses, they fit really nice on me and are definitely beck breakers.

The millionaires are one of the most iconic sunglasses LV has ever made. Designed by Nigo, Pharrell and Marc Jacobs, i would have to say they produced a very nice design.

However, both the sunglasses are very flashy pieces. Tom Ford and Oliver Peoples also has some very nice sunglasses out. Check these Oliver Peoples ones out, their much better and settled. Their quality will also beat LV. The price as well :) $495
