Chinchillas

I've been thinking of picking one of these up for a little while, but thought I'd ask what I should know before I make the decision. I've owned a couple of hamsters and a dwarf rabbit in the past, so I'm reasonably familiar with the basics already. I also know that chinchillas are supposed to take dust baths, but what else should I know? TIA

They are nocturnal.
How much it likes to be handled will depend a lot on how much and how gentle you handle him when they are young.
Most chinchillas sold as pets are males.
They crap a lot when they're excited, like when you let them run around outside of their cage. It's almost like they lose control of that bodily function.
There fur can get matted very easily, so you have to comb it with a comb specifically designed for chinchillas.
Try not to feed them too many highly nutritious food items. Their digestive system is not used to it.
Buying chinchilla food from the pet store is really expensive. If you have freezer space, buy pellets in bulk from farm supplies or something and freeze some of it.
Try not to get him wet.
