motorcycle do's and don'ts do you mind posting your personal do's and don'ts in riding motorcycle such as example // I don't ride thats why I am looking for a few quick do's and don'ts I will take Riding school , but I thought if I can just see what people think that will be great. don't - don't fix your mirror while riding do - get reflective gear so you're more noticeable at night / day |
Don't go squid. Don't drink and ride. Don't stunt on public streets cause you think it is cool. Don't ride sleepy. Do get the best helmet that fits the best that you can afford. Do not ride illegally without a liscence. Do not let others influence how you ride. I'm sure there are more, but I am trying to finish up to leave work early. |
Do assume that everyone on the road is actively trying to commit vehicular manslaughter Do take the long way if you're commuting :D (my 35km commute to my weekend job is ~75km every time i take my bike :p) |
Don't -Practice knee scraping in parking lots or on that nice curved road up ahead Do -Take it to the track to practice knee scraping and to speed a bit |
Do - ignore your cell phone or put it on silent. - have an open mind about your skill. Always room for improvement Don't - Be ignorant! |
Do Wear all your gear, all the time. Dont forget to make sure the intersection is clear before you enter. |
Don't- Think people can see you! (you're invisible to them) Do- Take your time and always keep your eyes on the road |
don't take a passenger with you until you have a lot of experience under your belt for your safety and theirs. don't get road rage, just let it go if someone ie cuts you off do get a full face helmet no matter what bike you ride imo do take the nicer route to your destination if you have the time ;) |
do check your mirrors constantly, especially when stopped at a red light |
Don't pop it in neutral at a stop light. Expect the person to rear end you every time, so plan accordingly. Do warm up your bike and tires beforehand. |

Do know how to ride a bike, and control the power. |
DO: Assume everyone on the road is out to get you, and trying to kill you. Trust no one, leave nothing to chance. DON'T: Assume others can see you, or have already seen you. Trust no one, leave nothing to chance. Quote:
Do you have any articles so I can read up more on this |
|
good thread, do: -be scared everytime you're on the bike, that way, you're always alert! don't: -speed in the city street (especially busy small streets) |
do ride safely don't ride dangerously |
Do: wear your gear Don't: buy a litre bike as a first bike |
don't rip it around corners in the morning cause it's slippery. |
do- always ride in your own comfort zone at your own pace always keep your eye on the fuel and know exactly how many KM you have-always carry some CASH just in case for gas... -AGATT dont- trying to keep up with friends or other riders that you know are faster then you. if you are in a group ride, they WILL stop down the road and wait for you - dont pass on double solid blind corners |
do - never wear gear, always squid, stunt everywhere, be ridiculous, go 300KM/H and be an idiot don't - thers nothing you shouldnt do...do it all... 8-) but seriously....i think in order to respect a bike you should experience everything once... |

thanks timpo great advice  do's: relax (dont be stiff) keep elbows bent and weight of the handle bars, be alert dont's: stop too close behind a car especially when uphill |
dont crack open throttle or brake hard on either side of train tracks the plastic/composite is slick. do have ur bike in 1st gear at a busy intersection when stopped, cuz if the guy behind u doesnt notice ur stopped its either rip outta the way or "rearender" which means splat.i had to run the redlight to avoid a guy not paying attn,i watched in my mirror and he didnt even slow down ,i just barely avoided him by accelerating QUICK |
