Where I live we have 5 cars that sometime all park in front(three of them are mine), the house next to me has about the same (they are a bit of A'holes), the house across the street has two cars and no parking on that side of the street.
We all sort have our own sports, but we just park where we can, never any problems.
Last winter we even shoveled out each others 'spots'

Last winter we even shoveled out each others 'spots' | were cool with all the other neighbors its just 1 certain house, and yea they do have other DD's that they are parking around their abandoned car, or infront of their own house. its just the fact that they ditched it in front of my house and my other neighbors that pisses me off when they have room to park it in front of their own house.

Cops won't tow the car. I had an 80's RV come and park in front my house last summer for a few days. The people who owned it look like they just came straight from the trailer park and would leave and come back to the trailer all day and night long. I suspected they were selling drugs out of it so I called the cops. They came by, ran the plates and said they couldn't have the RV tow and couldn't do much unless a crime was been committed.
I also have major parking issues with my neighbors. The family beside me always has people over so they have like 6 cars parked in front of their house and my house and they have the nerve to complaint if we park our car in front of their house which we never do. The other issue is the family who lives across me have a no parking sign in front of their house so their spot is taken from my neighbors cars so the guy living their is always pissed off. This older white guy that lives beside me, who by the way is the nicest neighbor I have, had issues with his neighbor beside him about parking a few years ago. I guess the city could put up more of those "parking for residence at xxx only". which you see around Kits near the beach.

if it's the city of vancouver then call parking bylaw at 604-257-8727. enforcement officer will come ticket and call for a tow.
Calling police won't do anything as they will just check the computer and they will tell you it's not reported stolen and for you to call city bylaw. So skip the step and go straight to bylaw.

whoever says that he has the right to park there because it's a public street is wrong! his car is uninsured so it has to be in his driveway or garage (part of his property), otherwise you can have it towed. don't you know that's what community policing volunteers do mostly, they walk around checking for stolens or uninsured vehicles.

don't call a tow truck yet, just report the car by calling your local police, there's an non-emergency line for your district. Give him a ticket for uninsured vehicle on public road. After 24 or 72 hours, if it's still there, tow truck company will tow it. If the cop have the time, he may watch it being towed before he leave.

heres an awesome idea, park in front of his house,
also roll your window down in the morning and play music really loudly (only window facing his house)

ok maybe the music is pushing it,
but parking infront of his house to make him understand what its like is definitely suitable, especially if he uses that front space for something.

Vancouver Parking Enforcement: (604) 257-8727
Tell them there's an uninsured vehicle parked on the street and they'll ticket it. Maybe tag it for towing as well, but they first put a notice up and then it takes up to a week to get it towed. (Sorry, but that's how it works)
I ran into this when someone dumped a truck cab (just the cab... no frame, glass, wheels, anything) in a back lane... it had a notice for tow for a week before it moved... like the owner was going to come back for it or something?!? Sheesh...
Once it's been towed... if it does get towed.... then spread some nails out on the road in front of your place. Then see if he's stupid enough to park there again....?

Just light it on fire. No week long waiting period for a tow then, is there?

if the vehicle is uninsured it is considered abandoned. you can call the city about it as long as its parked on public property and they will come by and put a notice on the car that states the day that they are going to tow the vehicle and he has to put insurance on it by than or move it on to his own property. and as for him parking in front of your house that street is not owned by you it is public property he can park it wherever he wants. It is just courtesay that he parks in front of his own house

It's hardly enforced... but if you had a problem like this guy does, in Burnaby at least you could do something about it.

But anyways, since his insurance is expired, you can get his car towed.

I don't know, but it's a win win deal to have a good relationship with your neighbors. | while i agree with you the op already talked to the guy and he is not willing to work together.
I would ask him one more time, tell him if he needs help pushing it into the yard (if it doesn't start) you will help him. If he says something rude then just call the city. Chances are if there is someone breaking into your house this prick is not the guy who will be calling the police anyway. He has room infront of his house let him park it there.
To the guys who say you don't own the spot infront of your house you are right, don't be a prick and get mad as soon as someone parks there but if someone is going to leave a car there for days and weeks while they have room infront of their own house they should be dealt with by the city. Seriously, if you were in the same situation then you probably wouldn't just say "I hate people who think they own the spot infront of their house"
Have some manners
