So how do you respond to someone that says they've driven while drunk and just because they haven't been in an accident, they don't consider themselves to be a liability on the road?
Your reaction time while impaired is decreased by 12 times compared to that of a normal driver. Your reaction time while texting decreases by 30 times. Whats worse here?
I don't give a shit about how you're a really good text messager, but Im not comfortable driving around seeing stupid fucks (such as yourself) doing it behind the wheel. Exactly what is so important that you cannot wait until you get off the road to reply too.
Suck my dick fag, my comment still stands. Quote:

I personally can do it quite easily...and I'm sure others can too. However, that said, I completely understand why they would ban it because the majority of people, for some reason, probably aren't capable. | |

Can you "cover" someone else's life back to them?
I was crossing a pedestrian cross-walk the other day and a car stopped pass its stop line and stopped right in front of me. If I were to walk out 2 seconds earlier, I would've been injured, and maybe killed. I looked at the driver, and she was texting on her phone.
It doesn't matter how "good" of a multi-tasker you are. When you don't concentrate on the road, it is inevitable that you are more likely to cause an accident. Texting on cellphones should be banned while driving. |

Well if that's the case, we shouldn't be allowed to listen to the radio, talkshows, music, read a map, etc etc either because my attention is going somewhat towards all those things...If I can text without looking at my fucking keypad, then I can do it. And obviously, I am not texting essays to people. There is nothing wrong with me reading my texts at a red light...Your comparison of my form of texting/driving with drinking/driving was just retarded...LoLuMaD!

this is the wrong place to post about texting,
so many azns on RS
azns don't need to take their eyes off the road
firstly, what eyes?
second, no true azn needs to look at phone to text, i use an iphone and i still get around without looking to text.

How so? Both affect your response time and as I mentioned, texting greatly increases the chances of an accident in relation to drinking and driving. Quote:

A new British study has found that drivers who write and send off text messages are more impaired than those who've been drinking or are high on pot. The study, commissioned by the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) Foundation, found that composing text messages while driving had a negative impact on all key measures of driving performance.
Researchers, who released the study this month, watched drivers between the ages of 17 and 24 on a driving simulator and discovered that:
* The reaction times of texting drivers deteriorated by over one-third (35 per cent).
* This was worse than alcohol at the legal limit, which slowed reaction times by 12 per cent.
* Even drivers under the influence of cannabis fared better than texting drivers, with reaction times that were 21 per cent slower than sober drivers.
* Drivers drifted out of their lane more often if they were texting. Steering control was 91 per cent worse, compared to 35 per cent worse when under the influence of cannabis. [Source: http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...924?hub=World]

honestly, I think talking on the phone while driving should be banned as well especially in Vancouver.
People can't really fucking drive properly already. Some dumb ass bitch today was trying to do a u-turn in an intersection while in the right side of the lane. Oh she was on the phone too!

When I text, it's when I'm sitting at a red.

Are you stupid? Did you not read that I said that I, unlike the MAJORITY, can text without looking down at my phone. I also said that the only time I do look down at my phone is to read a text message at a red light. Do you understand this, retard? I said your comparison with MY form of texting/driving to drinking/driving is stupid. Yes, your right, bitch slapped indeed...why don't u swear at me some more and tell me that you hope I die some more over the internet you loser.

What is with this fascination with texting anyways? Just make a bloody phone call. I am also quite sure nothing in this world short of the death of an immediate family member is worth responding to while driving. Just text or call them back when you park your car.

The people who are condoning texting while driving, it's a load of crap to say just because you can text without looking is in any way safer. You may not be using your eyes, but your concentration is impaired regardless. You're thinking about what you're texting are you not?
I find that I couldn't even text with one hand on my bbry. My hand is too small to reach the whole keyboard!

Again, I'm not saying it shouldn't be banned because I realize lots of people can't do it. But I don't think it should be that difficult.

I dont care enough to read the whole thread but personally I used to text and drive all the time and have ALMOST rear-ended about 3 cars. The last time was the worst and i stopped within a few inches of the car. Since then I don't text and drive anymore, its just not worth it. In those 1 or 2 seconds that you look down to read a text/write a text the car in front of you can already be stopping.
It absolutely should be banned.

We are suggesting texting should be banned while driving to protect those who are incapable of doing so from causing an accident and to protect those who may innocently be involved in the accident. If you as an individual can do it, good for you.
Yes, you are correct that radio, music, reading a map, talkshows, and etc. is using up your attention. However, if you look at your cellphone and think about what to text, it is MORE LIKELY that you will cause an accident. Why will you take the chance and endanger other people's lives? Even if there are no regulations regarding listening to music or reading a map while driving, it is a fact that these activities take away your attention from the road.
