| Visions' Extended Warranty
For those who don't know:
When you buy extended warranty from Visions, IF you do not have to use the service to get anything fixed, you get your money back in the form of an in-store credit...
Isn't this too good to be true?? The whole point of warranty is to get it "in case" anything happens, but now it seems like I only buy it if I need it, otherwise it's free..... |

I don't believe you get your money back. You get what you paid for the warranty in store credit. I can speculate why they would do that. It encourages people to purchase the extended warranty. Even if the customer doesn't have to use it, they win in 2 ways: Customer comes back to buy something because they have store credit, and they have the opportunity to sell the customer more stuff. The other way is if the customer doesn't use the warranty, he just might forget about it, and not even take the store credit. There's the opportunity for profit at both ends.

I'm willing to bet that more people then not don't redeem the credit after not using the warranty. They'll either forget about it or lose their reciept. It's like there price match they say it takes 2-4 weeks to recieve a credit in the mail. I used it when I bought a bunch of shit when I bought my place it took me about 5 emails, 2 phone calls and almost 8 months before I recieved my credit.

but BB and FS dont even give that option of credit back if you dont use it. so it seems like a pretty good idea. but visions is way too hectic for my liking.

i will never buy extend warranty at vision again | you sure it was a $600 min. purchase?
I got my credit letter last year, and there is no way i had to spend $600 to get the credit...
If i recall correctly, i spent about $400 for a $250 credit.
PS: Don't ever go to the Visions on Marine....the store manager there is a douche...

me and a friend looked in their car audio department for wiring, asked about pricing and recommendation, said we'd come back after we decide if it's what we're looking for.
as we're leaving, the manager ( was never in our conversation with the car audio department sales ) approaches us right before the exit and says " so what, you're not going to buy anything? " with his arms stretched out.
never again.

i previously worked at both Visions and Futureshop. With the Visions warranty, if there is no claim required, you will get your warranty money back in terms of a store credit. I can't recall exactly, but i think you can use the credit towards purchase of $250 and above. You have to mail it in, wait for a store credit to be mailed back, etc, etc, the process can take many weeks to complete.
Also a big note, if you need to file a claim during the warranty period, Visions will allow for one time repair only, once you use the claim, the rest of the warranty is voided. For example, if you buy a tv with the 3 year warranty plan, bring the tv in for repairs in the first year, you no longer have a remaning two years. This really sucks if you need to repair something like a remote, if they fix the remote, there goes your warranty.
If your buying things like flat panel tv, speakers, notebook computers, camera, I would definitely suggest you consider buying the warranty, but for other things, if something were to break, most often it's cheaper just to buy a new one.
Forgot to add, Visions is Canadian owned and operated so supporting local business is a plus, but reality is there's so much competition with the big box retailers and online store fronts that I don't see a small retail outlet like this surviving much longer. Take that into consideration if purchasing long term warranty plans, if the company goes under, chances are, there's no recourse for your warranty as well. FYI, i don't work for futureshop any longer so this is a total unbias view.

I remember reading on the visions extended warranty that in order to get your 250 back you have to spend over 400 dollars at visions. Which means you have to pay another 150 to "get that 250 back".

I think it's a pretty good deal. FF and BB always push for PSP and extended warranties and for some products it makes sense to buy them. Visions is just offering an incentive to buy it now because you can use it as credit if you don't use your warranty.
I'm not sure about spending a certain amount before actually getting the warranty credit, but I wouldn't be surprised. In the end, I think think you're gonna get a deal. To get $250 off if I need to spend $150 heck I'll do it. If this is the case, I think they should inform the customer though and not just make it seem that they get cash back with no strings attached.

But the thing with FS and BB service plans is that you can use it as much as you want during that time period. Visions is only once. which blows hard.
