$30 6GB Data Plan Back on Rogers

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/...-back-to-life/

Supposed to be for the two Android phones only, but BGR reports getting it put on a 'Berry and an iPhone no problemo. Your mileage may vary.

hi5-ive 06-02-2009 09:59 PM

does it includes what 35$ data plan offers? like call display + messages and such , etc

+Kardboard+ 06-02-2009 10:42 PM

It's the data only.

AVS_Racing 06-02-2009 11:15 PM

do i need contract or what or can i just add this plan on

ef8 06-03-2009 12:11 AM

3 year data contract I believe

wc19 06-07-2009 12:01 PM

if i'm on a current $30 1gig data plan, can i just call in and switch? or would i have to extend my current contract to 3 years if i want this?

!Aznboi128 06-07-2009 12:28 PM

^ call in add 3 year then u get this deal

but honestly on my berry I TRIED to get over 1GB but the MOST I've ever got was 680mb

bcrdukes 06-07-2009 04:07 PM

To this day, since HSPA was introduced, I still have yet to hit 1GB. :lol

Pretty hard on BBs, since they compress the data.

Yea...pretty hard to surpass 1GB, but it doesn't help that Rogers 3G speeds are kinda slow (average 1mbps). The speeds were 3x that up until the iPhone flooded the market.

bcrdukes 06-08-2009 12:25 PM

I'm getting pretty good speeds in the daytime around 2 - 3mbps and as fast as 5mbps in the evenings/late night. Mind you, this is on a Sierra Wireless Card, not an iPhone.

03aspec 06-08-2009 04:15 PM

this plan is going to be available tomorrow for iphone users as well.

N.gen 06-09-2009 07:53 AM

Can anyone confirm if Fido will be offering this also since they are practically the same company?

Same company, different brands. Fido is likely getting rid of the iPhone, going full discount, dumb-dumb phones only other than an obsolete 'Berry or two. :p

So the answer to your question is a resounding "no." Unless I'm wrong.

kayceeee 06-09-2009 09:08 AM

Actually fido is gonna come out with it till july 1st but its supposedly only for new and old iphone users only

Tim Budong 06-09-2009 12:30 PM

the 6gb data plan will be returning to fido June19th
also the release date of the new iPhone

meaning June19th is also the day that the plan will be available "publically" on Rogers

hypediss 06-09-2009 02:56 PM

would this plan work on other phones as well like if i swap my sim card out of the iphone it will work on the htc?

just wondering if this is a new being of some sort.

atrin 06-09-2009 04:08 PM

The promotion coming to Fido, it's for new iphone users only? Or open to the public whoever is using Fido service?

And I am assuming not 6gb worth of BIS data for Blackberries right?

kayceeee 06-09-2009 07:15 PM

its for new fido iphone or existing iphone users

you can. as long as you have a fido iphone already registered under your account already, then you will be able to sign up for the offer. what you do with the sim card in the iphone is then up to you.

simsimi1004 06-10-2009 02:02 AM

will this plan work with the omnia?

and on rogers record, it probably shows my phone as iphone because i bought iphone as HUP before i sold it and bought the omnia.

in fido's system or rogers, they dont know you have an omnia. they just see that you purchased an iphone from them before. if the csr you are talking to really digged hard and looked at the imei access, then you must have some bad luck.

to be honest, the plan is new. many csr dont know about it still. go call in soon and take advantage of the fact that some may not know about all the specific rules. data is data. these data packages are for all smartphones except blackberry. most if not all 3g smartphones can use the dataplan here.

I just called Rogers to change up my 1gig plan to 6gig plan..here are details:

I signed up on a 3yr contract with the iphone on Rogers back on Oct 2008. Unfortunately the 6gig plan was NOT available and so i opted for 1gig.. MIND YOU, try as I may, i never hit 1gig a month! anyways, for me to switch to the 6gig plan at THIS time, the rogers rep advised that I would have to renew my data plan for another 3yrs..but not the voice plan. ODD. So now, my 3yr data plan starts today while my voice plan chugs along towards it's original expiration of oct 2011. Once my voice plan expires, I can cancel the data plan for $40 as calculated by the rogers rep.

Anyways, whatever.. we're all gonna need a cell phone for life lol and everyone's gonna need data so screw it! i done it!

+Kardboard+ 06-10-2009 09:04 AM

Just renew your voice plan with a retentions plan before then and you're golden haha

Or just go with no voice contract for a bit first, then renew with a retentions plan.

the policy dictates that voice+data needs to be both renewed to 3 years in order for customers to have the $30/6GB plan. unfortunately many csr on the phone forget this or misunderstand this. so you had good luck.

kayceeee 06-10-2009 10:57 AM

I believe u can get it as long as ur current agreement is 3Y doesn't really mean u have to renew it afaik
