Affordable but decent lodging for visitors in Vancouver?

2 of my friends are planning to come visit Vancouver at the end of June/early July.
Any recommendations for affordable but decent temporary lodging?
No hostels, but motel and hotel recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If they have a car, or are willing to take public transit, there are a great number of guesthouses in Richmond and some around Metrotown.

Ok, I talked to my friends.
No real budget, but cheaper would be preferred. They plan on staying about a week, late June to early July.

The general Vancouver area is good, Burnaby as well, maybe Richmond, but not as far as Coquitlam. It doesn't need to be near downtown Vancouver, but that is a good area because of easy access public transit.

The names of the guesthouses near Metrotown would be appreciated.

Thanks again!
