Another Cash Grab

I was looking through my Rogers bill the other day and came across this: "Effective July 7, 2009, unless you subscribe to a plan, bundle or pack that includes text messaging, you will be charged for all non-premium received text messages at a pay-per-use rate of $0.15 each (plus applicable taxes). So basically, if you don't have a plan that already includes text messaging, you're going to start getting charged for received texts.

Fido maintains that they will not charge you to receive text messaging.

Rogers also "maintained" that same phrase few months ago....

Eclypz 06-16-2009 08:40 PM

yea...Rogers announced this a while ago...

it sucks...but if you guys text a lot, just get a text message plan.
they can be had for as low as $5/mo for 250 free sent msgs and unlt'd incoming.

and if you've been a long time Rogers customer, just call and bitch...they'll give you a txt plan for free.

Mr.HappySilp 06-17-2009 03:04 PM

what if u never text but u keep getting text message spam. Is it not fair for the user since rogers didn't take any actions against those spamming text message.

saiko 06-17-2009 04:04 PM

Oh man.. Why can't they just keep things as is?!!

Saw this too on the back of my bill, "For protection against unwanted spam text messages, send us a text message with the 10-digit wireless number of the spam message to 7726 (SPAM). We will credit your account $0.15 for each reported SPAM message and it's free to report SPAM."

Eclypz 06-19-2009 07:12 PM

i don't know what kind of stuff you guys sign up to, but I've had the same number for over 8 years, and I can't even remember the last time i might have got a SPAM msg. The only unwanted msgs I get are from Rogers...and I'm pretty sure those are free.

Can you not read? Reporting spam is free. They credit your account.

same here, had my number for 10yrs and never got spammed. guess these complainers are the ones that don't text but sign up for those porn messages online...:haha:

This is pretty pathetic on behalf of Rogers (and the rest of them)...talk about a huge step backwards. I don't really care 'cuz I have unlimited msg'ing, but as technology becomes cheaper and more accessible, providing it to your customers should be cheaper too (look at Internet...remember when you had to pay like $30 a month for some shitty dial-up and you got 20 hrs a month?).

Anyways...I've NEVER gotten text spam (been with Rogers for 9 yrs), except the odd one (not even one a year) from Rogers and every time I cross the border.

But what's messed up, is since I've got my Bluetooth headset, my BT is always turned on...every time I walk into the newest Future Shop in Edmonton, it tries to Bluetooth me something...I've always cancelled, but it's kind of annoying.

-lincolnboi- 07-15-2009 03:39 PM

so lets say that fido did the same thing, and i'm on pay as i roll, that would mean that i would get it up the butt?
