Was going to post in the "phones cheaper in HK" thread but im looking specifically at a n97.

Where can I get one local, new/used? And how much does it cost?

Or is it better to get someone to buy it for me in HK and bring it back?

I would get one locally, used. Budget for around $600-650, probably. Hong Kong would have the N97-1, so no 3G here. You want the N97-3, data plan or not.

how do you tell the difference between the real n97 and the fake ones that dont do 3g or wifi etc? In terms of the actual phone and the box it comes in?

Just looked on cl and i see fake ones going for 300 (which say replica in the title), and also ones that dont but they are priced at around 300-400. And then there are the ones that are priced 600-750??

You can get a brand new one from Newegg.ca for $630 tax in right now. They just dropped the price to $599, free shipping for both colours

If you're buying locally, beware of fakes, I've seen alot of fake ones on craiglist.

I read on HoFo that Bell might be getting the N97? Possibly Rogers as well?

I don't think they're hard to spot, they look a little awkward.

Some are just bad...

You mean you haven't been?!!? FAIL. There are ESPN widgets, I think. Lots of stuff out there.

EDIT: Cool site I just found with tons of great N97 apps >> http://www.applicationsnokian97.com/

It's actually really easy. I actually "bricked" my phone twice doing it. Good thing I figured how to revive it. HAHA
Just make sure you only switch out the language pack file or if you are flashing other system files too make sure you pay attention to the firmware version and don't downgrade. It will make your phone dead! LOL

- Basically download the 4 files for NAM.
- Then download the 1 language pack file from desired language. ( I used HK language pack) and then changed the file name of this to the file name of the NAM version (RM-507_20.2.019_prd.rofs2.V28 this is for the new V2 firmware) AND REPLACE THIS FOR THE NAM ONE.
- Then flash them.

Get into Messaging, click Options, then "Other" at the bottom of the list.

Next, change where your messages are stored to C drive if it isn't, and then hit Back so the settings are saved. Check to see if your texts are there, if not, then go back and change the drive to E drive (mass storage). Personally, I moved all my emails and texts to E so that it frees up the space on C (phone internal memory).
