it was fine before the update. The new update made things worse, ill try a factory reset.

ecsw 03-01-2010 10:27 AM

^ really? I found the update makes it a lot better.

Before the update, my n97 would re-start twice every time I turn it on. The sliding out of keypad won't unlock the screen 50% of the time. It also crashes a lot in the browser.

With v2.1, it all went away... Only 10~20% of the time sliding keypad won't work.
I am extremely happy with the update.

Are all these problems with the N97 or the N97 mini? I want to get the mini. Also, I looked through a bunch of this thread, and may have missed it. But when getting an unlocked one of these, do you have to have a data-plan, or just a regular pcs handset plan with net access in the contract to use all the features?

invader 03-06-2010 02:33 PM

I'm lucky, my phone is still under warrant. Im sending it out on Monday, they are going to send me a FREE replacement!

Skittlez160 03-07-2010 10:51 PM

I finally got fed up with mine today and did a hard reset. It moves a lot smoother now and hasn't crashed since. It seemed to have fixed all the "bugs" and little annoyances I had with it. Let's hope it stays fine for a while, hehe.

wifi is fine. I don't have data plan on my n97

My text messages is acting funny now. I can receive texts but I don't get notified at all. I basically have to keep looking at my inbox and discover new messages. I tried playing with the settings but no luck so far.

Any ideas?

ecsw 03-08-2010 03:28 PM

change the profile?

it's customizable on the respons of the text message. By default is was 3 long and loud beeping with vibration. I chose a shorter tone for it with vibration still on.

It's very obvious in the office when I received a text message as the default beeping was very loud. :p

I'm going to go ahead and point out the obvious.

Did you try to reboot? Using any sort of message notifier?

I eventually did a reboot and it was fine after. I initially didn't do that because I had thought it had something to do with my settings, seeing as I just did a hard reset. I also changed my memory in use so I thought it might be that also.

It was odd because it never happened before. I even had my boss send me a text and I physically watched my phone. I saw the message appear in my inbox but without any notifications at all. Double checked my profile and it was set to my usual one too.

It happened again a day or two after the first time but again after a reboot, it was good to go.

Thanks! :)

That's on all smartphones. :p They all do little strange things here and there until you reboot them. :p

ecsw 04-02-2010 06:19 PM

I just checked Navifirm, and from snooping in Nokia's NSU servers, .26 is NOT for normal NAM, it's specifically for an South American carrier. Maybe the FM transmitter got removed from that.....:lol

South America = NAM also. They use N97-3s, I believe. I'll take a closer look later lol

Some weird n97-1.....

edit: Is it just me or is there HSDPA 900mhz now? After I updated my phone, I started getting 3g/3.5g signals and internet seems faster.
Before update, i just kept it on "GSM" only to save battery since i have a n97-1(which is why i didn't notice till now after update). Before, if i were to set it to UMTS only, It wouldn't be able to get any signal.
Could this be the new WIND towers? But then I'm fido.. Not getting full signal either(still in progress of setting up more towers?)

Peturbo 04-02-2010 08:09 PM

Did a mobile speed test. I was getting 400 to ~1000kbps.
Its definitely 3.5g. But how?

Where were you?

Certain places in the GVRD have 1900 3G frequencies (ex, downtown).

Your phone has 900/1900/2100 UMTS. The NAM has 850/1900/2100 You'll know if you're picking up 3G by the bottom of the reception bars (but you obviously know that already).

blagh 04-09-2010 11:18 PM

edit: wrong account, at friends

Oh, interesting.

Back when I had a i8910, there were only very specific places where I could get 3G. I'm not sure how much Rogers has since expanded their 1900umts network.

Regardless, 850 is still best for penetration purposes. :haha:

Skittlez160 06-04-2010 09:42 AM

So.....the slide lock key on my phone broke off this morning, hahaha.

Has anyone actually been able to repair this issue? If so, which repair location did you bring it to? I phoned Nokia about an authorized repair centre in my area and they directed me to call Bell. Once I called Bell, the rep was quite a bitch and basically said she couldn't help me and I was SOL. I guess I'll have to look for a repair place in Richmond or whatever.

Even my E71 after firmware update picks up GPS signal faster than my N97. :haha:

Has anyone managed to turn off the red light that's on when recording video?
