s2000 valve clearance?

anybody notice rough idling during stops in an ap1? i've done some research and its due to the maf ( so i whacked it hard according to s2ki ) and poured in some fuel injector cleaner to a new tank of gas. and lastly...an appointment to adjust valve clearances with honda next week. anybody have experience with this rough idle experience and fix? also, anybody who's done valve clearancing and have anything to say about it? the car shudders pretty bad sometimes and rpm drops REALLI low..but havent stalled yet...ne info would be appreciated, the car has 79000km btw...thanks

if u had aftermarket intake filters that need re-oiling, most likely your MAF will see some light coating on the MAF wire. Try cleaning it with CRC MAF cleaner. I'd good luck with CRC before. If that doesn't help, you're getting a new MAF anyways.

The S2000 does not have a MAF sensor.

And I don't think valve clearance is the issue.

You mean MAP sensor. =)

Both myself and Viks2000 have been having this issue on and off, mostly when the weather suddenly gets warmer. From searching, it seems a lot of people have this problem and there's been no definitive solution to it. Best explanation so far seems to be that the ECU simply needs to adjust (but it sounds like it's doing a pretty bad job of it if this keeps happening). I've tried injector cleaner over three tanks of gas: can't say for sure if it helped at all, but I doubt it has anyway, it's not supposed to really. I've also replaced the MAP sensor entirely (for an unrelated issue): no change with this rough idling thing.

It does eventually settle down if you leave it alone and let it sit at idle for a minute and don't touch it, at least.

I very much doubt adjusting your valves will make any difference, but it's a good idea to do this anyway and there's no harm. Let us know how it goes!

The fuel injector cleaner (esp since im at 100k already) did help to smoothen the car up a bit. Little more crisp on the throttle too, but since we spoke to edwin, and he said everyone has this issue, I guess it's something that cannot be resolved with this car.

I find my rev drops a little low too after clutching in when coming to a stop, but it never stalled on me yet. This seems to happen only in the first 10~20 minutes after start though, it goes away after the car is warmed up.

throttle body cleaner is not recommended unless you see visible gunk in that thing. It takes 5 minutes to undo the intake rubber hose to check. It's waste of time and money to clean a TB that looks regularly seasoned.

Also it could be a faulty intake temperature sensor....
