Volchenkov reportedly turned down a $5M offer.. just think of what he would demand here when he knows the Canucks desperately need a Top 4 D. Plus, Volch doesn't score.. just blocks shots
I don't know if ultimately the Canucks can beat the 'Hawks. They're younger and have more depth, especially at the blueline, whilst the Canucks are pretty much peaking right now.
You DO know about the Blackhawks cap issues, right?
Kane's salary goes from $875k this year to $6.5M next year.
Toew's salary goes from $850 this year to $6.5M next year.
Keith's salary goes from $1.9M this year to $8M next year.
That's three players that they're paying a total of $3.625M this year, that they will have to pay $21M next year - a difference of $17.375M.
Nevermind they still have Hossa at $7.9M, Sharp at $4.1M, Campbell at $7.14M, Huet at $5.625M...
Bottom line is they are SCREWED starting next year.
Keep in mind that Madden, Ladd, Eager, Burish, Fraser, Johnnson, and Hjalmarsson are due for new contracts too.. theres no way Chicago is going to keep them all
I thought it was common knowledge that if the hawks don't make get the cup this year, they will have to get more with less next year....
It is guaranteed that either sharp or versteeg are going to be traded away to make some cushion for cap room and to help sign other players. Seabrook is at a good 3.5.
nhl market sucks so much... the history will made stanley cup playoffs thing is so dumb
"what if camalleri never hit a home run" - cammy
"what if the draft ended in 6th round" - datsyuk
they should add
"what if JFJ jr. didnt trade rask where would bruins be now"

you look at the cap hit not their current salary. keith's gets paid 8m but his cap hit is 5.5. hossa's cap hit is 5.275.
even so, they will not be able to hold on to everyone... the campbell and huet contracts are just stupid.

If only AV had the balls to try the same when Lu failed time and time again
that would be the dumbest move ever
to pull ur most expensive player signed for 10+ years
ur captain
and if it failed he would be fired and the media and fans would be on his ass like no tmrw
and even if we had halak's performance we couldnt win with just obrien's 1 goal
damn luongo haters

Exactly, the contract and the captaincy has handicapped the coach. You can't do shit to Luongo or it is guaranteed to backfire in your face. That's the whole problem!
captaincy doesnt even matter...
its the same with kipper, miller, brodeur there's no way they won't be starting in any playoff games
philly had no choice all their goalies are injured, and they were down 3-0 and their stacked team was able to tie it up and win it
boucher gave 3 in the 1st but the team backed him up by scoring
luu's 1st period in game 6 was amazing stopping all sorts of chances breakaways and shots, but the team couldnt do shit for him
Both of you have good points. Skinny is right, Lu does call the shots and I doubt he would have allowed AV to start Raycroft.
Luuuuuuuu is also right, it's hard to pull your highest paid player in the playoffs and put in your backup. Yes, other coaches have done it, the Caps are one example but this is Vancouver. If AV started Raycroft and he didn't get the win, the media and fans would have been calling for AV's head. I doubt AV would risk his job, I know I wouldn't.

Philly did have some key injuries but imo goaltending was key to their comeback. Leighton did come up with that big shutout win. That been said, we can't compare the Canucks to the Flyers or Habs. Both teams worked their asses off to win their series and goaltending did make a big difference for both teams, I don't think the Canucks had the same effort vs the Hawks except for game 1 and 5 and our goaltending was sub-par at best.
