If your #1 is letting in 5 or 6 goals in a game, and you are scoring up to 4, you gotta give the other guy a shot. But with the current situation, that's pretty much impossible.

Caps did it cuz Theodore's been playing crappy for a few straight years, plus he will be UFA next year.. and valarmov had a few good games last playoffs
i don't think u can compare that and do that with luongo as he's gonna be the franchise goaltender for years to come

I do agree of course, that it's not 100% Luongo's fault. I think he's the most overrated player in the NHL, but he wasn't close to being the worst player on the team.

Luuuuuuuu is also right, it's hard to pull your highest paid player in the playoffs and put in your backup. Yes, other coaches have done it, the Caps are one example but this is Vancouver. If AV started Raycroft and he didn't get the win, the media and fans would have been calling for AV's head. I doubt AV would risk his job, I know I wouldn't. | Yeah but then that means that AV is making decisions based on which gives the least career fallout instead of decisions based on what's best for the team or the current game.
Mark my words. If Lu doesn't step up and be the best player on the team night and night out, the only way they'll be beating teams like Chicago is when the time comes for teams like that to get cannibalized by the Salary Cap; which really isn't winning anyways IMO.
edit:
And people shouldn't get fooled by the $5.5M cap hit. Luongo was looking for $8M on his contract expiry. It's just looks $5.5 right now because Gillis was able to circumvent the rule by signing Luongo til his early 40's which may or may not be well past his expiration date.

it's too bad we won't be able to re-sign raycroft. i think he's been our most reliable back up goalie in a very long time.
the game in toronto he played was fucking hilarious too |

Since gillis is looking for more "playoff experience" type guys
lidstrom, gonchar, neidermyer, zubov, chelios (lol?) are UFA who has tons of playoff exp on D. No way we will get lidstrom gonchar or neids maybe zubov.
Is zubov still under contract next season in the KHL? hes still pretty good last time i saw him play LOL!

thank you boston for shitting the bed so phenomenally you made the canucks post season look like a huge success!
also, i keep hearing people say "luongo needs to make the big saves!" exactly how many big saves is he supposed to make? 2? 5? 30? i think its fair to say a goalie should make a handfull of game saving saves a game, but when your team is allowing 35-45 shots on net, 20 of which are good scoring chances, and you're only getting 25 shots on net and scoring once, you cant soley blame the goalie. granted, a goalie shouldnt be allowing 5-7 goals a game, but the canucks problem this post season was as much defence as it was goal tending.

Luongo hasn't done this, with the exception of the last two LA games (he deserves a lot of credit there) and the first period of game 6 against the Hawks.
Not enough, bottom line.

You need a goalie to go on a hot streak during the playoffs. Look at Halak, he made 50+ saves, allowed one goal vs. the Caps (I think) in game 6 of that series. Look at any team that's made it to the finals over the past few years, all had goalies that went on hot streaks. Prefect example in recent time is Rolson for the Oilers who basically carried the team into the finals, got injured and the Oilers lost the cup in part because Rolson went down.
I'm not bitter but I wasn't happy for the Flyers because I kept thinking how a team like the Flyers could come back, win 4 in a row to take the series and the bloody Canucks couldn't win one more game to force a game 7. The Canucks had everything, top home record, one of the highest scoring teams in the league, most come from behind wins but once again they found a way to choke in the 2nd round. Biggest face palm ever.

pretty sure is not a 7million dollar difference worth since there are better cheaper defensemen on that team... and on any other teams there are a a lot more D so 7mil should show a huge difference
but goalies is another case, a shit load of goalies are gonna be "overpaid" just cuz they get the blame when their team don't know how to score or win for him
brodeur, yea awesome career and regular season stats and won almost everything... but look at his recent seasons, this year's first round choke and especially with last year's playoff on how he alone fucked it up for the team against carolina in the first round with a minute left
kiprusoff, he's way overpaid and overrated compare to luongo then since a lot of analyst and NHLers say he's an elite goaltender as well, and look at the promising Ds calgary had at the start of the season to help kipper and still at least we can say luongo got the gold and division title for us
elite world class goaltenders fuck up too unless u guys are saying no goalies should make anything over 5mil or they will be overpaid/overrated

If Lu was gone for 20 games, and Raycroft were to play the majority of those, then we can make a fair comparison.
