I think Wellwood looks fine. You can't expect him to lose all that weight and bulk up within in a few months. I'm sure he'll get bigger (muscle) as the season progressives but it'll be nice if he's gained a little more speed by sheding the weight.

Tho that being said, good on Wellwood for not being chubby anymore, but IMO he definitely doesn't look good. | We're not really saying he looks like Sedin fit or Ohlund fit...we're saying he's fit for Kyle Wellwood. He has exceeded our extremely low expectations of a guy that showed up at camp last year looking like he ate 37 hot dogs covered in ketchup and lard for breakfast.

Canucks leaving to Terrace at 8:30 and kind of interesting that the Canucks charter is now an A319 instead of a A320.

Always amazes me how guys whose workout consists mainly of 12oz weights feel so qualified to comment on pro athletes' conditioning. | I've ran into Wellwood a couple times within the last few weeks in Yaletown and I'll say he is a very soft/pudgey 180lbs.
and Soundy I can guarantee you I'm in much better shape than Wellwood. I train heavy 5-6 times a week, so I am qualified to comment on pro athletes' fitness levels, especially considering that I've trained with NHL and NFL players. A few well known RS members know me and can comment on my shape, go ask Shoei, TRD604 or blum2001. Mananetwork has even seen me in the gym.
I know a few NHLers and even those that aren't muscular are at least pretty toned. Someone mentioned Datsyuk, I've seen him in person, and while he's pretty skinny as well, he's at least toned. I'm not saying Wellwood hasn't improved from last year, and I am not saying he's not a good hockey player, but to say he looks good physically IMO is a stretch. |

A319s are among the most popular variants of the A320 family."

Henrik Sedin called countryman Mikael Samuelsson a dirty player Sunday following the Canucks' initial training camp session. Twin brother Daniel then chimed in with the same summation.
Samuelsson should consider it a complement, not a criticism.
While those in attendance at UBC were salivating at the prospect of a prime-time Swedish scoring line -- especially after tic-tac-toe tallies during Sunday drills -- the Sedins are also sold on the free-agent acquisition because his game packs as much will as skill.
"He's bigger than you think he is and he's got a great shot and is a good skater," said Henrik. "And he can be a little dirty. He's kind of a dirty player and not Swedish that way. He can play it all."
Daniel suggested the right-winger will do more than just complement the twins if aligned at even strength or the power play to earn his three- year, $7.5-million-US deal. He'll go to the dirty areas and do the dirty work to ensure effectiveness at both ends of the ice. So, in that respect Samuelsson is dirty.
"You can say that," said Daniel. "He's more Canadian than Swedish. He's tough to play against and gets under your skin and can frustrate you because he's so strong. He'll fit in in a lot of different situations."
Samuelsson seemed a little puzzled by the dirty-player label until told it was delivered with the utmost respect by the twins, his 2006 Olympics and 2004 world championship linemates.
"I like to get into some scrums in front of the net," he said. "I try to play a little gritty. I'm not tough or anything like that, but I try to play hard, go to the net and shoot a lot of pucks and stay for rebounds."
Detroit coach Mike Babcock labelled his former winger a "comfort guy" and is "way better than he believes."
Samuelsson didn't argue the point. But he suggested that second- and third-line roles with the Red Wings were becoming stale and he couldn't build on the last four seasons in which he had 19, 11, 14 and 23 goals respectively in the Motor City. Then again, playing a prominent role with the Sedins may change those totals and his level of confidence.
"It's one day," Samuelsson cautioned of his instant chemistry with the twins. "I don't expect anything. I have to take care of myself and go from there. I don't set goals. Maybe I should. Just stay open and find the high slot once in a while and sooner or later they'll find you."
Samuelsson found his way to Vancouver because he sees Stanley Cup potential here and was sold on the organization and the city by the twins. The Canucks sold themselves on Samuelsson because of the way they challenged the Wings.
"They never gave up," he said. "They have a solid team and a good skating team and were hard to play against. They don't really give you anything."
All the Samuelsson hype is not to take anything away from Alex Burrows. He plays a similar game and is coming off a career 28-goal campaign after teaming with the twins for the final 30 games last season. However, Samuelsson is more seasoned at age 32 and has won a Stanley Cup. It's a missing element on a club trying to take that next step. And who knows? Maybe Burrows plays with the Sedins at even strength and Samuelsson lines up with them on the power play?
Coach Alain Vigneault will experiment with line combinations with four games in the next six days.
"As long as the team wins and we're successful, I'll be happy," said Burrows, who centred Darcy Hordichuk and Steve Bernier on Sunday. "We'll see what happens."

this is why naslund didn't work out with the sedins, no? unwilling to do the "dirty" work.

He was a sniper, not a power forward. Put Naslund with the Sedins and you have a line with 3 forwards playing offensive perimeter and no power forward to park Byfuglien style.
It's like asking the twins to take the role of checkers. It's not really unwilling. It's just that their game doesn't have the dimension to accomodate for it.
