I hate these noon playoff games. NBC doesn't pay the NHL anything and they get to dictate the schedule on weekends. Complete BS, when you have CBC paying the NHL to broadcast games...
I want my HNIC.....even if it starts at 4pm.
Being Canadian + Living in Vancouver + Weather + Day Game =

That's why it's not an absolute necessity to have a world class goalie. It doesn't hurt, but history has shown that any goaltender playing well at the right time is sufficient to take the team deep into the playoffs.

I know history has shown that any goaltender playing well at the right time is sufficient to take the team deep into the playoffs, but there's no consistency. I'd rather have a world class goalie. Sure Halak and Leighton got hot for their teams this year, but next year it will be two other no name goalies that get hot at the right time. The problem is, we don't know who these goalies are going to be. That's a risk I wouldn't want to take. Look at how many years the Flyers have had awesome forwards and dmen and yet no proven goalie in net.

Exactly. It's not something you can foresee and count on. A lot of GM's would be under a lot of heat if they just relied on hoping their magical backup goaltender will get hot when the time is right.
There are few goaltenders who are consistently good year after year. Luongo seems to be, or at least we all expected to be, that kind of goalie and unless he crashes and burns (which I don't think he will) from here on, we're lucky to have him.

GO Canucks GO!
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) hi there
(づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ・。*。✧・゜゜・。✧。*・゜゜・✧。・$$$$$゜゜・。*。・゜*✧ .
With World Cup coming up, I was listening to England's soccer song...remembering what it was like to sing it with England fans at a pub when I was in London in '06. Seriously, a great sports song...it's their version of "The Good Ol' Hockey Game".
It's basically about how England hasn't taken the World Cup for years and years and they were so close but missed on a penalty. But this...THIS would be the year.
If you have no idea what I'm talking about...it's this song:
Then I wondered what it would sound like if it was about the Canucks. Y'know...since we were so close in '94...and thought it up while driving home today.
Quote:
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming!
The Cup is coming home!
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming!
The Cup is coming home!
Tears for heroes dressed in blue
There's nothing we'd rather dooooooo
Watch the game
Drink a brew
There could be parades
Down Robson Street
It could've been freakin' sweet
Instead we tasted defeat
So now I'm singing
An orca on our shirts
And the name of our city
40 years of hurt
When will we stop being shitty?
Talk about Stanley comin' here
And no, it's not just the beeeeeeer
We believe
We will cheer
Vancouver's ready for war
A Sedin is certain to score
Louie's shuttin' the door
and we're all screamin'
An orca on our shirts
And the name of our city
No more years of hurt
This year...we'll stop being shitty!
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming!
The Cup is coming home!
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming!
The Cup is coming home!
its the Chris Pronger effect...the first year after being traded to a new team, that team makes it to the conference final.

We should have a starter and then a decent backup who plays a different style. Play 60/20 split in the regular season and go with the other if one isn't working in a playoff matchup.
