i dunno.. especially against Calgary i have some severe doubts | QFT
the boy couldn't even handle the pressures of playing in the pre-season. i don't care how many goals he has scored lately, they've all been against mediocre goalies. IF however he does show up on friday's game, then i will take this all back. now what are the chances of that happening?

Speaking of hockey pools. I have Marian Gaborik and he's doing quite well so far this season esp in the 3rd period. Is now the time I trade him before he pulls his groin or something? I know he's good enuff to be like top 5 in NHL scoring if he can stay healthy but what are the chances of that? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

He's simply too risky in hockey pools.

Don't let logic get in way
Guillaume Desbiens? Who was he, anyway?
By Tony Gallagher, The Province October 15, 2009
The Vancouver Canucks have made some unorthodox moves lately, moves that make you wonder what on earth is happening.
We're not saying they're bad decisions or wrong moves, because there is no right and wrong in some of these cases. General manager Mike Gillis, assistant Laurence Gilman and the coaching staff always have a well-thought-out strategy.
But for No. 1, let's start with the signing of Mathieu Schneider. It isn't often a team signs an unrestricted free agent who can't play, but that's what the Canucks did at the start of the season to augment the depth of the blueline.
It was said that he passed his medicals, but having passed, he couldn't play. Wrap your head around that again, Cody Hodgson. Because of the way he was listed to start the season, he now can't play until Oct. 25, and that's assuming he'll be able to play by then, which nobody will confirm one way or another.
Of course, this wasn't supposed to matter because there was and perhaps still is another deep pool of guys, but when Sami Salo took his leave much on schedule, the UFA who can't play looks a little awkward.
In second place comes the arrival and then departure of Guillaume Desbiens, whomever he was. Was it an asteroid that melted in the atmosphere or what? Your best winger goes down and a player who appears unable to skate at an NHL pace arrives to replace him. Or was he here to fix Alain Vigneault's sink?
We may never know. He got hurt in training camp, didn't show much, but after what we presume were a couple of good shifts in Manitoba he gets the call to replace Daniel Sedin, only to be returned like the wrong sized shirt a day later.
The explanation was that it was Steve Bernier who replaced Sedin on the top line and Desbiens was brought in to replace Bernier on the third. And how do you argue? They won the game and planted in the minds of every player in Manitoba that they too might win the lottery one day and benefit by getting their crack.
But didn't we just hear how great Sergei Shirokov was? At one point, Vigneault essentially suggested he might have beaten out Pavol Demitra straight up for that top-six job coming out of camp. Couldn't he have replaced Bernier? Or Tanner Glass, another player who so far seems to struggle to keep up and has limited offensive potential by his own admission.
Oh well, it worked out and it's allowing Shirokov to get a foothold in North America where he is for the moment.
And surely Demitra is No. 3. You have to love the timing of this guy's quotes. As Sedin goes down, everyone turns to the gifted but injured playmaker for the expected encouragement to hang in their boys, I'm close, I'll be there soon to help.
Nope. If we can more than paraphrase here, all you hear is: Sorry boys, don't look at me, I'm not getting any better. It's still killing me. After all, it's only been five months, what are you expecting, miracles? By the way, Schneider had the same surgery and rehab so that's why it's anyone's guess as to when he actually returns.
And finally, we have this head-scratcher from practice Wednesday, although the team's next game isn't until Friday so we can cool our jets for a bit. With Salo going down from the first power-play unit, one would have expected Christian Ehrhoff to get the call to step up to the first unit, given he has five points in five games, was on the Sharks top unit last year and already has three assists on the power play this year on the second unit.
Not so fast Captain Logic. Enter Mikael Sammuelsson on the point of the first unit, because he played a few games there on the second unit in Detroit and the real reason that he's a right handed shot, something the coach thinks is important. Odd, but how can you complain? Their power play is going great guns. It's the only element of their game standing between them and a Leafs-like start.
Keep on doing what your doing, folks — whatever the hell it is.
