Eric was 27 when he got that devastating hit by Stevens. Toews is 21. At that age, everything adds up and one gets to be pretty soft no matter how tough one was.
Toews is still at an age where it's much easier to shake off a big hit. | Bullshit. A concusion at any age is going to affect the player the same, no matter what the age is. It's not like the brain is going to get stronger or weaker with age. If he has a concussion, Towes is not going to be able to skate it off. Not in today's NHL where a lot has been learned about concussions and the life long affects they will have.
Look at how long it too Paul Kariya to get over his concussion symptoms when he was cheap shot.
Lindros had 5 concussions before the Scott Steven's hit. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/hoc...ndros_history/

I remember watching a interview with Keith Primeau and he talked about his ongoing post concussion syndrome. You never want to get a concussion, it's the worst type of injury that can happen to a person. And on the topic of Toews, he missed another practice today.

Burrows will be signing autographs at the Abbotsford Best Buy today at 5 pm - Grand Opening. I drove by there at 1:15 pm and already there were over 100 people lined up. Almost all in Canucks jerseys.

Lindros had 5 concussions before the Scott Steven's hit. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/hoc...ndros_history/ | Be that as it may, I still believe a younger kid will have an easier recovery from any injury than that of an older one. Comparing how devastating Stevens hit on Lindros vs. Mitchell on Toews will yield differing results.
You can quote me on this if you want. Despite the severity of that hit, that hit is not career ending for Toews, nor will it make him a softer player from this point on. He may be hurt now, but its not one of those hits where he won't be the same player again like the comparisons this discussion has yielded (lindros & naslund).
If Toews was 27+, I may alter opinion.

Caps' Ovechkin fined but not suspended
Friday, 10.23.2009 / 5:23 PM / News NHL.com NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations, Colin Campbell, has confirmed media reports that Capitals' right wing Alex Ovechkin has been fined but will not be suspended for his slew foot of Atlanta's Rich Peverley in the final minute of Washington's 5-4 road victory on Thursday night. Ovechkin was whistled for a two-minute tripping penalty.
The fine comes one day after Anaheim's Evgeni Artyukhin was suspended three games by the League for slew-footing defenseman Matt Niskanen of the Dallas Stars, though no penalty was called on the play. The Ducks' right wing, who loses $34,756.11 in salary, will miss Saturday's game against Columbus, Monday's game against Toronto, and an Oct. 30 contest against Vancouver.
"It is unfair to draw any parallels [about the two slew-foot incidents] other than the players that [Ovechkin and Artyukhin] tripped both fell down," Campbell told NHL.com. "Artyukhin was suspended [for two games] last season for a kneeing incident in which a player was injured. He was also fined during this preseason for slew-footing a player who didn't have the puck. Fast forward three weeks, he, in our opinion, did slew-foot Matt Niskanen, causing Niskanen's skates to fly up well above the boards and half up the glass. It resulted in an injury for Niskanen and he has missed one game so far."
In contrast, Campbell said, Ovechkin is "not a repeat offender" and he was pushing the player's feet out trying to get the puck late in a close game. There was no injury to Peverley.
"We categorize that as a hockey play, but it is dangerous and that is why we fined him," explained Campbell. "And we still don't like either play."

It was an odd thing to say about your franchise's #1 prospect. Some twisted motivational technique, perhaps. | I hate AV and his dumb ass comments sometimes. He just loves his grinders and pluggers and never knows what to do with offensive players.

If Toews was 27+, I may alter opinion. | We are talking about a concussion. That is where the brain hits the skull, inside the head. It is brusing/damage to the brain. An 18 year old, 21 year old, 27 year old, 31 year old will all suffer the same damage. Some worse than others due to the hit itself.
This is why head shots should be illegal.
If the player isn't 100% from their post-concussion symptoms, they should not play. It's when they have the same mentality as you, then people seriously gets hurt. You need to understand that most players will say they are fine, or can play through the pain because they want to play. They get paid to play, not to sit on the sidelines and watch. Also, to be out with an injury can/will be a blow to their self esteem/ego when they are young.
Read that article I posted. Basically, that was Lindros' 6th concussion. It was doctors who recommended him to retire. The next concussion could end his life. He even said it himself. He thinks he might have come back too early from his concussion as he was young and not a lot was known about concussions back then.
A bad back, bad groin, broken fingers. Yeah, I agree with your point. But not a brain injury like a concussion. You are lucky I used all my FAIL's on Zhengfail or else I would give you one.

Everyone is well aware the capabilities of a concussion injury. There's no argument there. But like it or not, age will always be one of the contributing factors of how one recovers from an injury. In that regard, I still will insist Toews hit nowhere near places him in a path led by Lindros.
It's too far of a reach.
When Toews comes back and is never the same person again, basically Kariya'd, then I'll eat my words. But if he comes back to form, then you'll have to bend over for any further conflicting opinions we both will have. (Since you feel overly so strongly about your opinion over mine).
Seriously, I think people are reading wayyy too much with the fact Toews stumbled back to his bench. It was a great hit, no argument there, but h'es still far from being Lindros'ed, Kariya'd, or Naslund'. <--- Refute that.
I give you a FAIL rep just because you just don't get it. It's not exclusively about concussions. It's about the comparisons it has been made with.

I give you a FAIL rep just because you just don't get it. It's not about concussions. It's about the comparisons it has been made with. | Some of it also has to do with the degree of the concussion. In Lindros' first case, his eyes were glassy as the hit. He missed 20 games and some think he came back too early. It was his 6th concussion that ended it for him.
Heck, he was back on skates practicing after his 4th concussion where he collided with a team mate during practice which game him his 5th concussion.
Oh yeah, and he was 25 when he got his first concussion.
As for recovery, well he did score 40 goals and had 53 assists in 71 games following his first concussion.
Paul Kariya was 25 when he had his concussion. Since that concussion, he has had a few seasons where he was injured. Has he lost his game due to the concussion, no. The very next season he had 39 goals and 62 assists for 101 pts in 82 games. Even more recently, when he was 31/32, he had 31 goals and 54 assists for 85 points in 82 games playing for the Preds back in 2005/2006.
As for Nazzy, I don't think it was the injury itself, but more that he lost his game after the hit. And he was 30 going onto 31 at the time of the injury.
Oh yeah, here's a good video about the whole concussion dispute. http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl/clip226239#clip226239
