I mean, Roy rarely screwed up, but when he did, it was one for the ages. Does that diminish his standing? No. So should Luongo's brain-farts diminish his? No.
It's got nothing to do with his lack of playoff success so far - as Hondaracer notes, that's the whole team's problem. You can't ever pin that on any one player. Dismissing the guy's talent and skill because he makes the occasional mistake is the thing that's ridiculous, because ALL the greats screw up at one time or another, no matter how good they area. | Oh no, I missed one! . There goes my argument.
No, a gaffe here and there should not diminish his standing...My personal favorite's of Roy is the Statue of Liberty. But in comparison to Roy, Luongo has no standing, or at least he doesn't have the standing that people in Vancouver make him out to have. He is not a god tier goalie...And I'm not saying it's because of his mistakes, I'm saying that his best hasn't gotten him the accolades...Whereas if he were a great goalie, he'd have them by now, regardless of the team in front of him (and yes, I'm well aware hockey is a team game, and that the success of one does depend to a degree on the other people on said team).

Is there really that much hype around Lu? I mean I think everyone is blowing everything out of proportion here.

Why not let the season progressive before we judge the team or a individual player.

I always thought hockey is not about individuals, the most imporant is to have a team with chemistry and good group of guys in front the net.
Goalies plays an imporant defensive role in the hockey game, but we gotta also have great offensive players too.
This argument of Luongo is going no where, you like him or not, he has signed his life away to Vancouver.

The reason why Luongo is so hyped is because he's in Vancouver. We're a hockey mad city, and we want a Stanley Cup so bad. When he was in Florida, people knew he was good, but nobody called him "god". Blame it on Vancouver's fans, and blame it on our media.

Maybe max 10 games a season? | No point feeling bad for them: the last three or four backups have been free-agent signings who come in with the full knowledge that they won't likely get more than a dozen starts, and they sign anyway.
