why is everyone so sure the canucks are fucked if they dont sign a BIG name because calgary got JBo, Chicago beafed up and a few other teams have basically traded one player for the same type of player? remember what everyone thought last year that we were completely fucked when Calgary made big moves. We still won the division with Luongo out for 1/4 of the season. we need a top 4 defenceman, and a second line winger. we dont need an $8m superstar.
I really dont think Calgary is any better off this year. Kipper should continue his slide downhill, and they lost about 50 goals in their shift from forwards to defence heavy. Its clear that no one wants to play in Edmonton, Colorado seems to be completely lost as to whats going on, and Minnesota doesnt look like they are doing much other than losing everyone.
Chicago and Pittsburgh are going to be the teams to watch this year, and we arent going to out super-star them no matter what we do.

I still think Gaborik may be here, it's funny how theres no talk about him. | Hes playing smart, while western playoff teams are putting plans into action. This is hockey, not building a Fusion reactor. Every year its the same, and Canucks will never be contenders with that attitude. I just read a rumor that Calgary signed JayBo to use Phaneuf as trade bait to try and get Heatly. Now wether they could actually pull it off and accomplish something during the season and playoffs is another story. But its that kind of attitude that wins. Risks. I honestly cant bare to watch another 1st or 2nd round playoff lose for the Canucks.
I bet Gabby ain't commin. I hope he comes, but knowing the Canucks. He wont.

You also mentioned that all the teams around us are improving, which is not true. Calgary signed JayBo but they also lost Camalleri. Ducks re-sign Scott but they lose pronger. Even Chicago has not really improved yet - they signed Hossa but Havlat is still unsigned. So far, they just exchanged one 70+ point guy for another.
