Not really any sure fire Hall of Famers jumping out. Only 2 I can see as close to guarantee for 2010 induction are Mark Howe and Sergei Makarov (more for his contributions in international play than NHL). Players like Bure, Turgeon (30th all time scoring) and Oates (16th all time scoring) while had amazing offensive numbers will probably have to wait past their 1st ballot year to get in if they ever do. |
Damn, I'm getting too old. Mos tof those people are the stars of the 90's that I'm very well aware of. At this day and age, I don't even know much of the players in the all star games.

i dont understand why his # shouldnt be retired... fuck what the fans say, in the long run canucks franchise could make decent busniess off bure jersey and merchandises and draw russians players here? But for sure he will get into the hockey hall of fame | Bure's jersey isn't retired mainly because of the way he left. I'm pretty confident his jersy would have been retired already otherwise imo.

I just wish Bure recieved the same type of treatment from the Franchise as Luongo is receiving. Bure would've happily been the cornerstone of our franchise.
Discrediting your own player to lowball him is beyond douchebaggery. Pulling a contract bait and switch (from USD to CAD) as well is just so sleazy I actually support any employee walking away from any employer under the same circumstances.

Jersey retirements are going to die out no matter what standards or anything they may end up bringing in for it... I mean... some time in the distant future if they keep retiring jerseys they flat out run out of numbers to use on the team LOL... look at a team like Montreal, over 100 years in the NHL they could easily have retired like 30+ guys by now but they just can't because there'll be no numbers left for current or future players haha!

Bure was a speedster in the game.
anyway, Sergei Makarov doesn't ring a bell. It does remind me of this though: |

There's a part of me who loved Naslund and part of me who hated Naslund during his career as a Canuck. Overall he had a great NHL career and put up impressive numbers but at the end of his career his numbers dropped and I started questioning his leadership. However, I think overall he does deserve to have his number retired. The positives out way the negatives and let's not forget the amazing things he did for the kids off the ice. There are not too many players out there who put the extra effort to help out within the community like Naslund did.

but knowing how jerseys are retired left right and center,
theres something inside me that says that the organization will frabicate the legacy more so than what he has done for this team.

To have your number retired, it can't just be about the numbers. It has to be about what you mean to the team. Linden > Bure. | Linden prior to 95, meant a lot to the team.
Linden after the 95 season, no not so much. As much of a great guy he is he has never accomplished anything beyond that 94 season where we had a superstar forward and a all-star goalie. You can argue it was him that got us to the finals that year but I will always remember that overtime goal by Bure in game 7 agaisnt the Flames.
I'm not saying Linden shouldn't have been honored by the team but I'm saying he hasn't done anything Naslund hasn't.

I'm not saying Linden shouldn't have been honored by the team but I'm saying he hasn't done anything Naslund hasn't. | on the ice Nazzy wins for sure
but the heart and soul of Trevor Linden to the city and the organization is what makes him stand out amongst the rest.
Trevor Linden has called our city his home. He lives here, he enjoys it here and to this day, is still captain canuck.
Nazzy, like Bure, is going to be remembered more for the on ice production rather than anything off the ice. Nazzy's Suite was cool, but thats like Lu's Crease.... The typical stuff like visit hospitals, the team does this anyways
The thing is, if your gonna throw Naslund beside Linden and Smyl, why not send Ohlund up there when he's retired, no one has talked about that either, and he is the GREATEST Canuck defenceman. I believe he already surpassed Jyrki Lumme to take that position
