Chicago's brightest young stars appear to be on the verge of staying in the Windy City long-term.
The Chicago Blackhawks have called a press conference on Thursday afternoon at the United Center where, according to CSNChicago.com, the team will announce the signings of Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith to multi-year contract extensions.
According to the report, Toews and Kane will sign five-year contract extensions, while Keith has reportedly agreed to a 13-year deal.
Thursday's press conference will be streamed on the Blackhawks' web site (chicagoblackhawks.com) at 2 p.m. CT.

That means someone is traded because they can't announce contracts that exceed the salary cap even if it's next year under the tagging rules.

Broduer has the best "stats" going into this game amongst Team Canada goalies
Broduer will get the start becuz he CAN face this many shots in an uptempo game
Fluery's a choker in my mind, tho i must say his one right silenced all the wrongs he has done in the past.
Luongo is the "known" beast to face 40+ shots a night, but is he the same dominant goalie we saw last season? My answer, Not even close, hes makin the BIG save but letting in the softies...
BUT knowing that experience and steadyness going into 2010, they goin to ride Marty anyways
just a guess

Sportsnet has learned that Toews and Kane have agreed to five-year extensions worth $31.5 million each while Keith gets a 13-year deal worth $72 million.
The news comes on the heels of some solid play from the Blackhawks, who are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. Entering Wednesday's games, the 'Hawks were second in the Western Conference with 37 points.
Kane leads the team in scoring with nine goals and 17 assists for 26 points in 26 games. Captain Toews has 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) in 20 games while Keith has 23 points (five goals, 18 assists) from the blueline. | http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/...ks_extensions/ |

just a guess | The fact is, past numbers will probably have limited influence on the choice. They've done that before, gone heavy on the "traditional" big names, and failed miserably. The general buzz is, they'll be looking at who's hot leading right up to the Olympics, for ALL positions. Despite all the "goaltending duel" hype on tonight's game, little if anything will be decided on that outcome alone - you know Stevie Y will be watching all these guys intently over the next couple months. If Lou gets hot and Bro goes into a slump, well, guess who's gonna get the first call?

What I'm saying is, like Brodeur he has been in pressure packed situations such as the Stanley Cup Finals and has been successful like Brodeur. Further, he is a young guy who shouldn't get burnt out. His numbers present a debate on who should start come February.
My depth chart looks like this:
1) Brodeur
2a) Fleury 2b) Luongo
Right now, it seems as though it's Brodeur's to lose. With it being in Vancouver, Luongo will get the next look followed by Fleury. Quote:

As of now:
Brodeur - GP 22 / Sv% .925 / GAA 2.05 / SA 603 / SO 1
Luongo - GP 20 / Sv% .910 / GAA 2.56 / SA 531 / SO 1
Fleury - GP 23 / Sv% .904 / GAA 2.51 / SA 585 / SO 0
But none of this probably matters as they will go with whoever is the hottest goalie leading up to the olympics.
But if no goalie is clearly playing better than the others, then I think Brodeur will get the automatic start.

+1. | I know what you were going for, but you can't exactly say he's the best of both worlds because he isn't best of either. Yes, he's been in pressure packed situations, but as was mentioned before, his international resume leaves something to be desired. That's not a knock against him, because he is a good goalie (and in my mind, better than Luongo). And despite what Soundy is saying, ie: going with the hot hand (which does make sense, don't get me wrong), I still say they'd go with experience, in goal at least.

I don't think you know what I meant. I didn't say he was the best of both worlds I said he has the best of both worlds. He possesses tangibles that both Brodeur and Luongo have. Saying "he has the best of both worlds" is different than "he is the best of both worlds". Fair enough he made a dumb headed move in JR international play, but Brodeur only has a silver from JR's.
Like I said, it's Brodeur's spot to lose.

Like I said, it's Brodeur's spot to lose. | He may only have a silver, but he's sure got a lot of other trophies to go with it! And indeed it is Brodeur's spot to lose. Would have liked to see Ward considered for Canada, but the way Carolina had gone, plus his injury...

anyone rmb 2006 world cup?
luongo vs the czech and SHUT THE DOOR
he didnt care, he saw one game
made the difference
marty comes back and wins it vs the Finns
As good as Fluery is right now, im still going to bash him simply becuz it was HIM that embarrassed our country. You kno if he gets out there, the people will ask, and in a short tournament, by the time it affects him, its already too late.
Team Canada probably has the best Defensive Depth heading into 2010
Russians have snipers that will EAT YOUR CHILDREN
USA has the the HOTTEST goaltenders coming into 2010
Sweden has a balanced attack
the finns and czech are getting old
Slovakia, like Sweden, balanced, but not as powered
