Murray, Oduya and Ohlund offer something Edler does not and I'm guessing they wanted a more physical D to take on bigger teams like Team Canada.
Tallinder over Edler is debatable, but I guess they went for experience with Tallinder's track record of playing for various Swedish national teams over the years.

for my 6000th post...I will post my ideal team for Canada, probably will get fails left right and center for this one and its LONG GOALIES
1.Brodeur
2. Luongo
3. Fluery
Give the ball for Marty to run with it, he's gonna have one element that other goalies might not develop on no more and thats the ability to play the puck behind the net. He will be very active at that and it will allow Canada to gun faster. I think these are locks to make the team Defense
Pronger/Weber
Neidermyer/Boyle
Duncan Keith/Brent Seabrook
Doughty
This gives the team some the defensemen that can SHUTDOWN yet be that anchor on the PP. Keith and Seabrook are are massive shutdown pair. Doughty as the 7th man, give him some experience being around the men, but for sure, he like the rest have the ability to shut the door yet be a stud offensively. This seems to be the trend with the D as more teams reveal their olympic rosters FORWARDS
Iginla Crosby Nash
Perry Getzlaf Stamkos
Marleau Thornton Heatley
Smyth Doan Richards
Martin St.Louis
Probably a questionable lineup. I have a big issue with Thornton, and its been showing in the month of december. I dont care how many points he puts up a night, but the fact that he doesnt move his legs is hurting hte production of heatley and Marleau, those two can be better, BUT they have awesome chemistry and deserve to be here. If Getzlaf is ok to go, than this line could be a threat. Stamkos can absolutley play the wing. and if Getzlaf isnt ready to go, Stamkos can slot to teh center and St.louis can come in.
The Richards Doan Smyth line should provide the grit and play a big shutdown game if asked to. You could also see what I have as the top line to play a more defensive role if they have to. Doan can play wing is Richards can center the line. They both work
St.Louis as the 13th forward becuz he's a SMART hockey player. I decided to leave out Jeff Carter only becuz well, scoring 46goals last year doesnt mean your a smart player. Stamkos i feel has better vision for the ice, and along with Crosby, should be the two leading Canada into the future. Vinny..thats too bad, like big Joe, the laziness in his game where he just for whatever reason decides to stop skating is a liability.
the biggest thing about this team is SIZE. All the D can play a physical game along with the forwards. The forwards, as big as some of them are, can play a very fast and finesse game when needed to.
I wonder how many of these I will get right. probably only the goalies hahaha.

imo E. Staal is a must, players like that are the kind of players you need in a tournment like this
he's a player you look past prior performance and take regardless because you know he'll play his heart out

but its the pressure from the likes of Hockey Canada maybe
who knos
Jordan Staal is an example, he can be the other shutdown forward on a PK and still make an impact over the likes of the proven smyth/doan tandem..
how many of the "chosen" can infact play a two way game and how they accept their role on the squad will make or break a medal for team canada
the first point is based on looking at how the other squads have built their squad so far.

Russia's forwards look something like this:
Ovechkin - Datsyuk - Semin
Kovalchuk - Malkin - Afinogenov Morozov - Zinoviev - Zaripov
Radulov - Fedorov - Kozlov
Anybody know anything about those KHL'ers?

Anybody know anything about those KHL'ers? | Morozov use to play for the Pens back in the Jagr days. PPG player in the NHL imo.

Snippet of an article that sums up Yzerman's approach. http://www.ctvolympics.ca/hockey/new...id=wgsportsnet Quote:
Two points the 44-year-old member of the Hockey Hall of Fame kept reiterating throughout the process bear pondering now, with the roster reveal a day away.
First, Yzerman wanted to ensure that, in whatever situation he faced in a game, head coach Mike Babcock could look down his bench and find a ready solution at hand. With Canada's depth of talent, there was no reason why Babcock shouldn't have a good, better and best option for all the challenges presented.
Secondly, Yzerman stressed how he wanted players that performed well against their elite peers.
Some in the NHL can pad their numbers against weak or tired opponents, but have level of their play drop off when playing against high-end talent. Also, there is a long-standing practice in hockey, at every level, of coaches "hiding" the deficiencies of certain players by getting them onto the ice against bottom-six forwards or the third defence pairing.
Yzerman wanted players who can up the ante when the stakes went higher, not ones who would shrink from or otherwise get overwhelmed by the challenge.
Canada will go into the 2010 Olympics as one of the favourites for the gold medal, but a half-dozen other countries have the desire (and the personnel) to win as well.
Hot goaltenders, developing chemistry or outrageous good fortune - any number of factors can go into winning a tournament that, after the preliminaries are done, segues into a one-game, winner-take-all showdown.
Yzerman has said this too, over and over: That while Canada never quite did get it together at Turin 2006, it actually played pretty well at Nagano 1998, and there lost the chance to play for the gold medal only because of an otherworldly performance from legendary Czech Republic goaltender Dominik Hasek.
In a short tournament, with no best-of-seven playoff format to provide protection from an off-night, some things are beyond your control, no matter how well you prepare.
