My only wish after the dust settles from this BS is that this guy is banned from doing Canucks games forever but I doubt that'll happen.

The league has already made a statement about how there is no evidence on the aligations and thus will close the case with just a fine against Burrows.
Why am I not surprised. All I can hope is that the league keeps and eye on him and disciplines him on further infractions but which such a dirty ass and minimal disciplines, i highly doubt it. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=305888 Quote:

As far as the NHL is concerned, it's case closed.
Stephane Auger won't be fined or suspended by the National Hockey League for allegedly threatening Vancouver Canucks forward Alex Burrows.
The evidence isn't there.
At worst, Terry Gregson, the NHL's director of officiating, will remind Auger that approaching a player before the game - as Auger clearly did on Monday night prior to the Canucks' match-up with the Nashville Predators - is never a good idea.
Canucks fans may be outraged by this information, combined with the fact the only form of discipline to emerge from this potentially scandalous game is a $2500 fine that Burrows received for publicly questioning the integrity of an NHL official.
Burrows was fined the maximum amount allowed under the rules of the collective bargaining agreement.
Understandably, the NHL has great respect for its on-ice officials and considers Auger one of its best, so without concrete proof that any threat was made, the league has no reason to pursue the matter any further.

This is such bs, but it's to be expected from the NHL.
Just glad Burrows voiced his opinions $2500 is nothing to him and totally worth it. i would expect Auger be watched more carefully by all the fans, teams, coaches and hopefully NHL people
I hope he gets nailed in the head by another puck.

Let's just chill it. If the canucks won the game, no one would be complaining. We're all just jumping on the Burrows bandwagon and following his move.
There will and always will be bad calls (Yes I agree those were horrible calls), just like how Lu will play poorly once in a while. Should we replace Lu because he played poorly in a many games, just like how we should fire the ref who made horrible calls in many games?
I think most of us are just angry about the fact that the ref may have been unfair to the Canucks. I don't think the refs were against the Canucks, I just think he's a bad ref who makes horrible calls occasionally. For the last game, it was all a coincident that he wasn't on the game standard and gave bad calls to the Canucks. | Quote:

The NHL's decision to fine Burrows is just league policy, same thing will happen to a coach who rips on the refs..ala Marc Crawford. The fact is, the NHL needs to step up to the plate and address the issue to save itself from embarrassment if the media decides to spin this issue. Pretty much the NHL needs to step up if they wanna be recognized as a major player in professional sports in North America. At the same time, the NHL does not generate enough respect in the US market and thus needs to fix this.
As a hockey fan, we can hope for this issue to be given the legs it needs to show Bettman the clown that its not just another player ripping on the officiating of a sporting event. It will require a lot of negative press and pressure to get this issue 100% settled.
Ok, lets get into the situation here that we all know. Stephane Auger gives Alex Burrows a pre game warning that he was going to get him. All based on the fact that Alex made Auger look like a food for calling a 5min penalty. Fast forward to game time, and a bunch of phantom calls were made that changed the outcome of the game.
Stephane Auger has had a history of bad calls and disrespect from players and have gotten himself involved in some serious scandals involving racism that eventually led to involvement from the Canadian government.
Throwing a game based on the fact that Burrows has made him a fool before is unfair. Dumber that he did it so openly to telling Alex what he thought of him. What I'm about to say is going very off the record and I'm jumping the gun on this issue based on a "what if" theory
What if, Auger was involved with a gambling ring. He can easily throw tips out there to give bookies an advantage if he knew beforehand in order to fix a game. Not as bad as the NBA scandal where the ref bet on the games himself, but its just as bad.
Again, the media will have to spin this angle in order for the story to gain momentum in the media, and I will add that I hope it gains enough attention that the US congress will want to give Gary Bettman and Stephane Auger a talk.
Players around the league such as the Flames can say all they want about the situation, but I'd like to see what they will do when Auger is on the Ice and officiating their game. Will he repeat? Think of the pressure that goes through the players around the league after this incident. If i knew of this official is going to make phantom calls on players who he thinks are pests around the league for their own personal vandetta, in which the outcome will be turned against my team, I will throw a fucking fit.
So I stand here and say that this is the PERFECT chance for the National Hockey League to save their image by using this situation and giving it a positive ending.
(im going to use this post to hopefully start a blog on the canucks and all of the national hockey league, I was asked before to start one up to voice my opinion on the topics of hockey. This incident has sparked a flame inside me and its a good venting tool if there is concern. I hope you all enjoy this little bit, even though i quoted a few people o this site, my posts in the future blog will not include members of Revscene. That would be plain wrong!)
Thanks Guys!

The league won't say it out loud, but the Auger's gonna be under a microscope. The last thing they want is an NBA fiasco a la Tim Donaghy: Quote:
And then there was the ongoing feud between Javie and 76ers superstar Allen Iverson. The rift was so bad that Philadelphia general manager Billy King often called the league office to complain about Javie's treatment of Iverson during a game.
Iverson was eventually traded to Denver, and in his first game against his former team, he was tossed after two technicals. Afterward, Iverson implied Javie had a grudge against him, saying, "I thought I got fouled on that play, and I said I thought that he was calling the game personal, and he threw me out. His fuse is real short anyway, and I should have known that I couldn't say anything anyway. It's been something personal with me and him since I got in the league. This was just the perfect game for him to try and make me look bad." The league fined Iverson $25,000 for his comments, but most of the league referees thought the punishment was too lenient and were upset he wasn't suspended. As a result, we collectively decided to dispense a little justice of our own, sticking it to Iverson whenever we could.
Shortly after the Javie-Iverson incident, I worked a Jazz-Nuggets contest in Denver on January 6, 2007. During the pregame meeting, my fellow referees Bernie Fryer and Gary Zielinski agreed that we were going to strictly enforce the palming rule against Iverson. Palming the ball was something Iverson loved to do, but if he so much as came close to a palm, we were going to blow the whistle. Obviously, our actions were in direct retaliation for Iverson's rant against Javie. True to form, I immediately excused myself and made an important phone call.
Sticking to our pregame pledge, each of us whistled Iverson for palming in the first quarter — we all wanted in on the fun. The violations seemed to affect Iverson's rhythm and he played terribly that night, shooting 5-for-19 with five turnovers. After getting repeatedly whistled all night long, Iverson approached me in an act of submission.
"How long am I going to be punished for Javie?" he quietly inquired.
"Don't know what you're talking about, Allen," I responded. | |

if Auger had said what Burrows claims, then i wonder why Burrows did not immediately inform AV and why AV didn't show a better defense of Burrows.

^Because at that point, Burr probably just figured it was an idle threat and didn't think anything more of it until the bad calls came, some two and a half hours later. You don't just go crying to coach anytime someone else on the ice disses you.
AV, meantime, had to (and still has to) be very careful of what he said publicly - he couldn't just go ripping the ref for what's still just an ALLEGED offense.

Well that's the other thing... what if Burrows does tell him before the game, what's he gonna do? "Uh yeah, this ref threatened retribution on my guy, so we're not gonna play"?

Maybe he did.. maybe he didn't..but there's nothing they can do at that point but play.
Of course AV would then just kept his mouth shut and didn't tell the media that Burr told him and just let the league take care of it... who knows!
Hope our team comes out on fire tonight!!!

The NHL does not think very highly of this ref.
He started in the 99/00 season and has over 530 NHL regular season games under his belt.
Playoff games?? A grand total of 10!
I hope the Canucks come out tonight (afternoon) and take care of the business at hand and don't get sidetracked from this clown.
