trade deadline is a bit overrated in the post-cap era anyways.

Lu Schneider combo next year with another "vet" as the 3rd wheel

i hope c.schnieder gets traded for the sake of his future. having him hang around here or in the minors isn't going to help much anymore. he needs to build a career in the NHL elsewhere cuz Lu isn't going anywhere for a long while. but who knows, have to wait for summer to see if anything will happen.

As for Cory, he will be 25 next season, and has only played a handful of games with limited success. Gilles has stated that he will sit down with Cory and his agent to discuss his longer plans for Schnider, but if you look at the team in it's current state, what is that future plan? Playing 10 to 15 games next season as Luongo's backup?
Schnider was a first round pick, and right now he is not even worth a 4th round pick.
Joey Macdonald was traded for a 7th round pick in 2011 and Poggy was traded with a 4th round pick for Aaron Ward. | Quote:

No team out there is looking to add a goalie with somethign like..10ish or so games under their belt to carry the backup role into the playoffs. Cory Schneider here doesnt even have one NHL playoff game. Gillis is trying to sell the Cory Schneider Reign of Terror, but imo, the chances of that happening at a trade deadline is slim. If infact he were to be shipped, i can see it happening at draft day. The demand for goaltending at this time of year is usually teams looking for experienced goaltending to lead them into the playoffs. Someone life cory Schneider does not fall into this catagory. I believe it is not even Gillis' priority to trade off Schneider at this time unless he is used to trade for D depth, inwhich the team currently needs

Why not sell off C. Schneider and use the money to hang on to Raycroft?
Is it feasable or worth it to pay him what he's making now (incl TO money) to hang on to him? Or is he just a total bargain because of the TO contract?
edit: I don't know the numbers, so I'm asking...

edit: I don't know the numbers, so I'm asking... | to sell off Cory, there must be decent return, inwhich we are lead to believe that there wasn't any at the offers Gillis got or opposing teams did not like the packages that were being shopped around for what the core of the team needs
Raycroft, is most likely trying to get back to being a no1 goaltender of some sort, may or may not happen. Remember Raycroft is a Calder Winner. Backup goalie money is usually limited, as no team wants to eat up 11mil in goaltending like the hawks did last year
wait till the season winds down and see what the canucks offer him. He has probably been the best of the three backups we had behind Luongo so far

Thanks.
I don't think many would disagree that he's a great backup. I guess it's a matter of how much he wants and what we can afford/where we want to spend the money.

And they gave Toronto a 7th round pick for Joey MacDonald. Did any of these trades make their goaltending stronger?
Oh yeah, MacDonald has played a total of 72 NHL games while Poggy has played 7 games.
No one can say for sure, but I think Brian Burke summed up what the trading deadline means pretty good. If a team is looking to revamp their team at the trading deadline, then they have done something seriously wrong with the makeup of their team.
In reality, the trade deadline is nothing more than an opportunity for teams to admit they are no longer in the playoff hunt, and to try to get high draft picks or young talent for whatever assests they had as well as teams trading salary cap space for said picks/young talent.
One thing I do agree, Schneider's value shouldn't change much between now and draft day, but at the current time, a second or third round pick is highly unlikely.

Can anyone provide a little knowledge on our new players and where they fit? I don't know much about Alberts and Zimmerman and where they fit in the Canucks' current and future plans. I'm also curious why Lukowich was reassigned to Manitoba, when I thought he's supposed to be a better defenseman than Baumgartner and Rome?

Alberts is a big body, 5/6th Dman and will play on the Canucks roster. He's going to fit a role sort of like O'Brian but hopefully more physical, a depth signing for sure. Zimmerman and Statsny are prospects and will be assigned to the minors.

The goalie from the future did play 347 games in the NHL, and got 2 shutouts while helping the Canes to the Stanley Cup finals in 2002.

Hopefully we just sign Cory for cheap, he'll play behind Luongo next season. He builds up his stats behind a offensive team like the Canucks and we trade him when a team needs him most.
