Thats ridiculous that Cooke didn't get suspended... The leagues reasoning was because Richards didn't either - Hell, both of them should of been suspended...
Why do they have the boarding call? Its to prevent players from getting injured from clean checks... Legal or not, why would you ever want to intentionally hurt a player like that. Show some damn respect! Still can't believe this shit..
P.S. I'm extra pissed coz I have Savard in my pool

Of course, they didnt see the shoulder and they ruled it no intention to injure the player
whatever, colin campbell and the NHL has issues with suspending players, just like that flow chart posted many pages back. Its so true. unless ur Chris Pronger, we wont suspend our superstars

i was thinking why cant they adapt something like this...
if player A hit Player B and caused concussion to player B, A should be suspended.
To be suspended how many games are determined by how many games player B is gone for.
Ie. B is out for 7 games, A should be susppended for 7 games.
B is out for half a season. A should be suspended for half a season.

I don't know, sort of not surprised. The hit was pretty similar to Richards on Booth IMO. That didnt even get a suspension.
Hopefully this new rule the GMs came up with gets passed and works.

Someone better watch out for Crosby, just incase they retaliate on him instead.
Cause you know Cooke's a pussy, might fake an injury to avoid playing on their next matchup. So the Bruins are gonna go after someone else.

B is out for half a season. A should be suspended for half a season. | I agree and disagree on this - yes, it's fair that if you do something against the rules and injure someone, you should be out as long as the other player is out for.
But how do you deal with career ending injuries? Concussions are the worst since you never know when you're fully recovered - if ever.

B is out for half a season. A should be suspended for half a season. | What about the odd chance that a hit to the head doesn't injure a person? Then player A goes off with a slap on his wrist?

B is out for half a season. A should be suspended for half a season. | this will never work when the NHL fails to sell tickets in most markets due to the fact that if the said player in suspension is Ovechkin
the working model would be to have a said amount of games for these blindside hits ie: 3 for first offence and then 7 for 2nd offence regardless of who the player is.
Colin Campbell says he couldnt find justification to suspend Cooke based on the Richards incident, which shows a bit of consistency so its great, but if the league suspended Cooke and not Richards, i see a big problem.
In reality, it doesnt matter if you play 20min a game vs 5min a game. Headshot is a headshot.
Justifying the rule should be priority. Sadly, becuz the NHL fails at putting fat american asses into seats in some markets, they cant afford to suspend the likes of Ovechkin. In which when the NHL did put the "suspension" tag on Ovie, he was out from the knee b4 he clotheslined the opposition. I dont see any justification there.

B is out for half a season. A should be suspended for half a season. | I don't like this method because say if player B who got injured is a shitty player and player A is a star, and both teams are fighting for a playoff spot, than player B's team may sit him out longer than how much he is injured causing player A to sit out that time too. Unless you had NHL doctors running the show, this method would not work out too well.
I'm surprised they didn't suspend Cooke. I think the Cooke hit was 5X worse than Richards. Maybe because Richards is taller so the hit was solid shoulder into head, whereas Cookes was lower on the arm to the head and also because Booth was admiring his pass when he got him and Savard had alrady taken the damn shot.
If I'm Crosby, I'm not impressed with the fact they are going into Boston a week tomorrow to play the Briuns. I bet Campbell will be at that game.
I get the reasoning for not suspending Cooke, but after this season they have to have some clear cuts rules in place. I don't want to see shitty hockey because superstars are injured. I bet Cooke won't even drop the gloves next week if someone wants to fight him.

VANCOUVER CANUCKS FORWARDS DANIEL AND HENRIK SEDIN DONATE $1.5 MILLION TO BC CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=313389 Quote:
VANCOUVER -- Vancouver Canucks hockey stars Daniel and Henrik Sedin have donated $1.5 million to help build a new BC Children's Hospital.
The Swedish twins, who've played for the NHL club for a decade, made their gift to support the hospital's Campaign for BC Children and specifically to the intensive care unit and diagnostics and imaging area in the new hospital.
In a statement issued through the hospital foundation, the brothers said they and their families feel very fortunate to live and work in Vancouver and want to give something back that would benefit children and families across the province.
The BC Children's Hospital Foundation says its $200-million campaign passed the $100-million mark in December.
Campaign chairman Don Lindsay says the foundation is delighted with the gift and noted the Sedins have supported the children's hospital for many years through visits and appearances in TV fund-raising ads.
BC Children's Hospital is the province's only full-service, acute-care facility for kids, serving a million children in B.C. and the Yukon, with 72,000 patients treated last year.
| What a great story this is!
I can't imagine the happy faces the twins have put for the families and kids!

not sure if you guys heard, but the sedins just made a 1.5million donation to the children's hospital. props to them! Quote:
VANCOUVER — The campaign to build a new $200-million BC Children’s Hospital got a generous boost this week from Canucks star forwards Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
The Swedish twins, together with their wives Marinette and Johanna, donated $1.5 million toward the project.
Henrik Sedin said it’s something the family has wanted to do since the births of their own children.
“There’s been a few times [at Canuck Place] where I’ve met parents with kids there, and they’ve had a week or two weeks or a month left to live. You leave the place wondering ‘How do they deal with that?’ You really appreciate what you have,” he said in an interview before Wednesday night’s game against Phoenix.
“Growing up playing hockey, you don’t really think about those kinds of things. But, like Henrik said, when you have kids, you realize how important these kinds of places are for people,” said Daniel.
BC Children’s Hospital Foundation launched the Campaign for BC Children to build a new hospital in April 2008. Fundraising passed the $100-million mark in December, thanks in large part to donations from thousands of British Columbians in 223 communities.
The Sedins have asked that their gift go toward the creation of a state-of-the-art pediatric intensive care unit and diagnostics and imaging area.
The existing ICU treats about 1,000 children per year. The young patients typically either have chronic conditions, such as heart problems, have been severely injured, or are recovering from surgery.
The diagnostics and imaging area performs more than 70,000 exams annually, including X-rays, ultrasounds, and MRIs. Increasingly, imaging technology has become important during medical procedures, rather than purely for diagnostic purposes.
The new hospital will also include an emergency department, operating rooms and patient rooms. The plan also calls for the relocation of childhood development and rehabilitation services from Sunny Hill Health Centre in east Vancouver to the Oak Street home of BC Children’s.
BC Children’s Hospital serves the one million children living in BC and the Yukon. Last year, more than 72,000 children were treated at the facility.
Family has always been paramount to the Sedins.
Daniel and Marinette Sedin have two children, Ronja and Erik, while Henrik and Johanna Sedin have a son, Valter. Erik and Valter were born in Vancouver.
The twins have made numerous visits to the hospital over the 10 years they have lived in Vancouver to meet with patients and their families. They’ve also lent their star power to television ads in support of the hospital.
They want whatever public attention their donation to the campaign generates to inspire others to get involved.
“It doesn’t matter how big the donation is, but that people help. They [hospital officials] want to get this story out because they hope other people will support it. We have the chance to do something,” Henrik said.
“We wanted really to do this. This is one thing we feel is close to our hearts,” agreed Daniel.
