Then again, it's also possible, if he came to Vancouver, he could end up spending a lot of time on the sidelines with Sami Salo, talking about sore groins and the quality of the press box popcorn.

14th & 15th last year in scoring would say that there were only 13 players in the NHL more productive then either of them last year. So 23 man roster, 30 teams means 14/15 out of 690 players and you want a higher caliber player?
How are you planning on attaining one or two of those HIGH CALIBER players? Then there is the whole UFA's fetch more then their worth problem. Signing the Sedins is a no brainer at almost any cost and if Gillis doesn't get it done he might as well just start the rebuild now. Gaborik and Cammeleri or Gaborik and Hossa without the Sedins does not put us any closer to a cup, 1 step forward 2 steps back.

People people all I am saying is if the sedins think they are worth 6-7 mill a year and
gillis goes and rejects that contract well I think gillis can go use that money on
someone else I might have been wrong in saying a high caliber player but let's not
forget we have a couple of kids from the minor that could possibly fill in...and there
is a huge list of players that gillis can sign....some people here think they know it all..
.fukken useless u guys think as a fan and not think ur fukken mike gillis cuz u aint.
..everyone in this city just want to watch good solid hockey and bring the cup

^^^ lol again you mentioned the sedins can be replaced but yet you don't list who? Who are you going to sign that can replace 160pts. If you lose the twins you basically need to create two productive scoring lines from either within or FA...
That is why everyone is ragging you!
But I do agree that the 12 year term is ridiculous and I don't think the Sedins can sign for $7M for both.

Its not the end of the fukken world... | lol! Then you can't just say the Sedins are replaceable like its pie. Cause its not! Look at the FA available and you will be paying over $6M EASY for each of them. Now you have to go sign a possible 3-4 guys instead too. Add on top we just lost the Sedins for nothing! Now if we don't sign them is it the end of the world? No, but it sure leaves huge holes to plug. And ya I guess you can plug anyone in, but I guess what I was getting at is someone equal or better....

Its not the end of the fukken world... | In the world of business you don't have a salary cap and you don't retain the rights to your employees like you do in the sporting world. The mainthing I really disagree with is you saying it's not a big deal if we don't sign them that they can be replaced. They cannot be easily replaced in the short term, not through free agency and if you do it through trades you're doing it at a cost because you have to give something to get something. Gaborik is more of a support player since he's hurt so often, you cannot rely on him to lead your team because he's gone a good chunk of the time. A great talent when he's healthy but unfortunately he's hurt a lot.
If this team wants a real shot at winning in the short term they need to sign the Sedins. If they want to rebuild that's fine to I wouldn't even have a problem with that. I'm just saying do it balls out or don't do it at all. Either sign them or get rid of them and shred the team so you can be really bad for a few years. Any players they bring in here on the short term without the Sedins here aren't going to take us to a higher level then we were at last season. If they can some how sign the Sedins and Gaborik then obviously that would be sick but under the cap system it would be tough.
The market says what players are worth and they'll get their money if not here in Toronto or Montreal. Quote:

People always mention the Sedins' point production as being amongst the best in the league and it's true. However, when you look at the amount of goals they score, they are amongst the lowest first line duos in the conference. This past season they had a career high of 53 goals between them and when compared to the top 2 point getters of other teams in the conference, 10 out of 15 teams had a duo that scored more goals than the Sedins. If Gaborik had not been injured for the Wild and Sakic and Stastny weren't out for the Avs, I'm sure the Sedins would've ranked even lower.
Now, I'm not saying they're bad players and that we shouldn't resign them - I think they're good, reliable players. Realistically, we should resign them but the thought of having a healthy Gaborik is quite enticing as well.

You all can hate me but I would love to see Gaborik in a canucks uni's next year....We've had a pretty good team with the sedins,lu,etc and still can't break it to the finals...time to shake things up....
I love the sedins but I personally don't think we can win the cup with them as our #1 line....
The thing about Luongo as well is "we are nothing without him" but we have not done anything with him either. and Northwest champs isn't it.

But I do agree that the 12 year term is ridiculous and I don't think the Sedins can sign for $7M for both. | This a little bit misleading. Yes they combine for roughly 160 points but they're not really the offensive powerhouse that statistic suggests when only 1 twin barely registers 30 goals, the other 20.
Don't get me wrong. I like 'em and they're good. But it seems like they're being put in a higher-than-deserved pedestal in order to justify the "whatever it takes" reasoning to sign them.

I remember reading somewhere (don't remember the source) that if Ellis was 3 inches taller, he would be the #1 overall pick.
