As a dad of a young kid who I'm starting to take to sporting events I can't stand the fights it really ruins the experience for a lot of people. When i was young I used to go watch the CFL all the time with my dad. I pretty much almost never go to Lions games anymore because the amount of drunk morons looking to start fights is just to prevalent. If they didn't serve alcohol I'd go to way more games then again there would probably be a lot more people that wouldn't go, lose lose for the team. I know there are non drinking sections but that's like a band-aid.
99% of all those CFL games that have fights in the stands, are when bc plays sask. after having season tix, and going to the other odd game, both me and my dad noticed the trend.
and yes, the non-alcoholic section does exist at bc place -- and it's not a band-aid at all. everyone i nthat section is like-minded.
BC lions games are literally the worst public event in Vancouver, id rather take a young kid to the fireworks than a lions game
last time i went to a lions game i bought "club" section tickets off a guy who's friends backed out and was sitting beside the 2 tickets me and a buddy bought
biggest joke of an event ever, worst service for a "club" section i've ever seen, and a worse atmosphere than a folk concert
i wont be attending a lions game anytime in the near future, and last time i even went as far and was that disapointed with the service that I emailed the manager of BC place lions games, who eventually forwarded me to the manager in charge of the club section
he went as far as to offer me, free tickets, a food/drink voucher, and free parking and I still told him i wouldnt take him up on his offer because i didnt even want to be in that enviroment again.

And that's unfortunate, when you assume that nothing ever changes and miss out on some great experiences.
Went for the first time in years last year and took my son. Fights in the section next to us so it was more of an observation then an assumption. I will check out the outdoor stadium on July 10th without a doubt but it's always the same old crap at Lions games. Like 44 used to say, "it is what it is".

I'm totally with you on this one. I went to a game 2 years ago and wow I never seen so many fights break out EVER. Literally 1-2 fights broke out in each quarter. The one guy got literally pummeled so bad he didn't even see it coming, it was crazy!
But I do want to try to check an outdoor games just cause its once in a lifetime.
You guys must go to different Lions games than me, I had season tickets in Section 17 for years and in that time only saw ONE altercation anywhere nearby, and that was a guy who was almost too drunk to stand up and had to be practically carried out by security. There were plenty of watermelon hats for the Riders games and never anything beyond some heated words... some Esks fans who had the seats in front of me who were the nicest guys.... most of the fights I ever noticed were in the cheapest seats. I know there were some issues that were reported in the news, but very few that were ever a distraction from where we sat.
Then again, I was there to watch the games... not to study the bar service or count the hooligans. I suppose if people go into an event expecting and looking for problems, they'll manage to find them...

Keep in mind that this poll was done with only 50 NHL players... so Luongo getting the nod for most overated with 6% means only three of those 50 players nominated him... hardly a majority vote.

The outdoor games will be good this coming season.
Video: Fan invades bench, attacks coach in Swedish hockey
For the second time this season, an opposing player taunted AIK fans in Sweden with a Max Talbot-esque "shhhh" after scoring a game-winning goal, as Daniel Rahimi(notes) of Rogle did the old finger-to-the-lips routine after an overtime tally Thursday in Stockholm.
The loss and the taunt didn't sit well with some of the more, uh, "passionate" among AIK fans, including one who managed to break through security, storm the Rogle bench and assaulted at least one team manager in a chaotic scene. From Daywalk3r, god of obscure.
Jeez, how many guys who look like Black Francis from The Pixies does it take to secure an arena bench? Thankfully, the Swedish riot squad walked out with those vomit sticks from "Minority Report" ...
The fallout from the incident has been fascinating, as it's front-page news in Sweden. From Expressen.se (translated) reports that the Rogle was warned something like this could occur:
Quote:
Even before the incident happened the training staff had been warned by both the referees and the security staff and was given instructions in case something would happen. Despite all that one fan managed to enter the booth and up to the coaches.
"We were told by the referee and the security guards that we should go out on the ice if anything happens. But you never expect something like this would actually happen. Immediately after the game, it started to rain down stuffs from the stands and after that, there's a guy on the bench as well. It is sad to see. I feel sorry for the guys in AIK who put up a great game." said Rogle's coach Pelle Svensson to SVT.
The Swedish newspapers are speculating that AIK could receive a massive fine and/or could be forced to play future games in front of an empty arena (translated).
For the record: Russian League fan bench attacks are so much cooler than Swedish League fan bench attacks, if only because they involve weapons instead of forceful shoving. Your move, SM-liiga of Finland!
