Can't hate on SOB for enjoying himself. He's single, 26 and a Canuck. That's just a recipe for getting yourself a ton of ass.

Chicks in this city dig that. As Robin Scherbatsky on HIMYM said..."If a member of the Vancouver Canucks walked in here right now, my panties would drop so fast there would be a hole in the floor all the way to China."

I think the Canucks will miss the shutdown presence of Mitchell in the playoffs, but does anyone else think the backline looks so much more mobile and fast to jump up on the attack with him not playing? Their transition game is pretty quick these days.

And anyone sitting in section 330 last night? Some dumbass thought it would be cool to light up a joint and start blazing, during the game. Some people are such retards.

I can't see this team going deep without him. I much rather have Edler/Bieksa/SOB as our 6th & 7th D-Man vs. what we have now.

Wow I just noticed it only takes 94 points to secure a playoff spot in the East. Talk about easy!

I agree with that. The playoffs are a totally different beast than the regular season. Like I said in my post, we'll miss his shutdown presence in the playoffs. If he isn't ready until like a second round (and Canucks advance) he is NOT going to be in game shape.

Look at the NHL standings from last year 2008-2009

z - Boston 116
y - Washington 108
y - New Jersey 106
x - Pittsburgh 99
x - Philadelphia 99
x - Carolina 97
x - NY Rangers 95
x - Montreal 93

* - San Jose 117
y - Detroit 112
y - Vancouver 100
x - Chicago
x - Calgary 98
x - St. Louis 92
x - Columbus 92
x - Anaheim 91

Agreed. Playoff games won't/shouldn't be 6-5 games - they're gonna be low-scoring affairs in general.

Wouldn't it be 90 points? ATL is currently in 9th spot with 80 pts and 5 games to go.

I don't understand why the teams have worse records in the East. Shouldn't that conference be tighter since those teams have a much easier travel schedule?

Good call. I was just speaking at this very moment it only takes 94 points.

West > East.

Yup.

And I believe the magic number is 4 for the Nucks to win the division. Any combo of 4 Nucks win, 4 Avs losses or anything in between to total 4.

wtf? I didn't know Mitchell was gonna be out THAT long...
He's incredible in the playoffs. He's like a 2nd goalie that stops pucks on the goal line with his long stick.

Goal-line save from a few years back

Mitchell blocking shots

He'll definitely be missed in the playoffs if he doesn't make it back in time.

The general view is that the West has beaten up the East in inter-conference play this year which explains the discrepancy in points.

The East playoff race is more interesting than the West with 5 teams fighting for 3 spots. In the West, the only team that is challenging for a spot is Calgary.

I personally think that Mitchell is done for the year... and possibly for his career. He's had 3 concussions so far and with each one, the ability to recover fully becomes increasingly difficult.

Pavol Demitra should be back in the line-up before the end of the season as he has resumed skating.

Glad to hear Demo's wife is ok. The team and city prays for a quick recovery.

on another note..Marek Malik will be youtube/internet video king for another few years with this terrible "goal" this past weekend

His team still won the game and is now leading 2-1 in that series

and we have another terrible column by reporters out east who shun their eyes to the west, and when they pretend to give a shit, it all fails. Its from The Hockey News, a well respected publication.

This corner would agree. Henrik certainly merits consideration to become the second Swedish player in NHL history to win the league’s top individual honor.

Yes, he deserves to be included in the conversation. No, in my mind, he doesn’t deserve to win it.

And the reason I will give is the same reason I stand behind the notion that Peter Forsberg is overrated – too many assists and not enough goals. When we ranked Brett Hull 22nd and Forsberg 24th in our top 60 players since 1967 a few years back, some expressed outrage we could rank Hull ahead of Forsberg.

I would counter that argument by saying Hull finished his career with 741 goals, which puts him third on the all-time list and more than 100 goals ahead of the highest active goal scoring leader, so he’s going to be there for a long time. Forsberg scored 249 goals and isn’t even within shouting distance of the top 100. Hull has almost 500 career goals – that’s almost a Hall of Fame career worth of goals – more than Forsberg.

End of discussion.

The problem with assists is you can look at the totals and never really know how much that player had to do with goals actually being scored. With goals, whether it’s an empty-netter, tip-in or a spectacular deke on a breakaway, there is tangible evidence the player in question was pivotal to the play.

Take Henrik Sedin for example. He has an impressive 75 assists this season, but more than half (39) of them are second assists. How many of those were plays in which he played a pivotal role and on how many did he simply dish the puck off to a teammate who made the primary pass to the goal-scorer?

Without going back and looking at the tape of each of his assists, there’s no way of telling.

But we do know Sidney Crosby has so far put the puck directly into the back of the net a total of 47 times this season, 18 more times than Sedin. We also know Crosby has scored eight times in the shootout. And of those eight goals, four of them have been game-winners. Curiously, Canucks coach Alain Vigneault hasn’t seen fit to use either Henrik or Daniel Sedin even once in the shootout this season.

We also know that, including shootout markers, Crosby has 32 goals and 24 assists that either put his team into a tie or ahead in the game. Alex Ovechkin’s totals in that situation are 24 goals, 26 assists, while Henrik Sedin’s are just 11 goals and 34 assists.

What it comes down to is how much weight you give goals and how much you give assists. I’m of the opinion that, unlike minor hockey, goals and assists are not equal because you can have a goal without an assist, but you can’t have an assist without a goal.

Henrik Sedin has been very good – at times brilliant – for a Canucks team that has surprised many with its ability to create offense this season.

But he’s still not getting my vote for the Hart Trophy.
Really, does he even watch what kind of passes he makes? Lets take last nights Danny Sedin goal, a no look behind the back pass that ends up on the tape of his brother. Those second assists, are a FACTOR on the canuck's success with goals this season as well. Henrik starts the cycle ends up on Danny's stick, and then he might dish off to Burrows and back to Hank and so forth that the cycle game these guys play contributes to a goal no matter who pots it in. Heres an example

YouTube- Absolutely Insane Shift
Look at Hart Trophy winner of 2005/2006. Joe Thornton racked up a whooping 94 assists. a number Hank will NOT reach this year. Jumbo Joe also scored 29goals. Henrik should be able to break that mark this year as well.

The definition of MVP, most valuable player, means that the player chosen to win the award means he is an impact player that makes a difference for a teams success. Hank for sure deserves this recognition.

I wouldnt have a problem with Ovie winning this, but I really wish that the eastern hockey heads would do a bit of research before pumping out retarded columns like the one above

Just like the Crosby vs. Ovechkin argument; there's really no right or wrong. Just preference, and the columnist just stated his.

People may say that Burrows is just riding the cottails of the Sedins. But IMO, H. Sedin wouldn't be able to reach the 100 pt plateau if he didn't have exceptional wingers; And is not really the type of player that can tally up goals on his own in the absence of decent teammates.

That's why IMO, natural goal scorers will always be valued more than playmakers. Nonetheless, the homer in me hopes that H. Sedin gets Hart, but I wouldn't lose sleep if he lost it to Ovechkin.

It all comes down to the the eastern bias. Of the 400+ members in the Professional Hockey Writer's Association (these are the guys who vote on the NHL's major awards), the vast majority of them live on the east coast. Just look at the past winners:
