The most interesting thing to me regarding both of these polls is that players are VERY reluctant to call goalies overrated. It shows the respect they have for the position.

So he's the most overrated goalie in the NHL. Close 'nuff
Actually, you're still not getting it.

Unless I missed something, there's still nothing conclusive that suggests that Luongo is the goalie that is picked as most overrated by players.

The point is the original poll of 50 random players is NOT nearly reliable enough to draw conclusive findings from, but you're still basing the assumption that Luongo is the most overrated goalie from that.

Not until you see the list from Sports Illustrated that shows Luongo to be the highest picked goalie can you make that determination.

Strangely, I actually found it pretty easy to get tickets today...

In fact, I ended up buying more than their posted limit of four tickets per game per household.

I don't know whether Ticketmaster is going to cancel some or all of my orders.

I got three pairs of balcony tickets, and one single for myself, all for what would be Game 7 if it gets there.

BREAKING NEWS !!!!!

Blues' Tkachuk to retire at end of season

Wednesday, 04.07.2010 / 8:30 PM / News

St. Louis Blues forward Keith Tkachuk announced Wednesday that he will retire at the end of 2009-10 after 19 seasons in the National Hockey League

Tkachuk will play in front of Blues fans for the final time this Friday night against Anaheim, and the club will pay tribute to Tkachuk's career following the game. He is sitting out Wednesday's game with a lower-body injury.

"I have been privileged to have a long career in this terrific league and play for first-class organizations," Tkachuk said in a statement. "My thanks go out to my current and former teammates, the St. Louis Blues, Phoenix Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets and Atlanta Thrashers organizations and most of all to my parents, my wife Chantal, my kids Matthew, Braeden and Taryn, along with all of my other family members for all of the support they have given me throughout my career."

"Walt (Tkachuk's nickname) has been an amazing ambassador for the St. Louis Blues," Blues Chairman Dave Checketts said. "I had a very nice talk with him today and conveyed what an honor it has been to have him in the organization. I thanked him for the effort he put in on and off the ice each and every day he has been a Blue. He will always be a cherished member of the St. Louis Blues family, and I look forward to celebrating his career in the appropriate fashion, bestowing upon him the honors he most certainly deserves."

Tkachuk has played 540 games with the Blues, scoring 209 goals and adding 216 assists for 425 points and 676 penalty minutes. On Nov. 30, 2008, Tkachuk became the 72nd NHL player and seventh U.S.-born player to reach 1,000 points. In doing so, joined Bernie Federko, Al MacInnis and Pierre Turgeon as the only players to reach that milestone while playing for the Blues.

"Keith is a true warrior who had an excellent career and I was hoping this day would never come," Blues President of Hockey Operations John Davidson said. "The NHL is losing an individual who gave a lot of time and dedication to the game and I wish him and his family a happy retirement and the best of luck."

Tkachuk, 38, has played in 1,200 regular-season games, scoring 538 goals and adding 525 assists for 1,063 points to go along with 2,219 penalty minutes. He has also played in 89 playoff games, scoring 28 goals and adding 28 assists for 56 points along with 176 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder has achieved a few milestones as a Blue, including his 500th game with the team on Nov. 30, 2009 and his 1,200th NHL game on April 5, 2010. In addition, on Jan. 30, 2010, Tkachuk served his 2,200th career penalty minute -- becoming just the fourth player in NHL history to collect 2,200 penalty minutes and more than 1,000 points in their career.

Tkachuk, a four-time U.S. Olympian and 2002 silver medalist, is also a five-time NHL All-Star. He ranks 10th on the NHL's all-time power-play goals list (212), seventh in goals (538) and eight in points (1,063) among left wings as well as second in career goals (538) and fifth in points (1,063) among U.S.-born players. He's a two-time 50-goal scorer (1995-96 and '96-97), and had a career-high 98 points with Winnipeg in '95-96.

In St. Louis franchise history, Tkachuk ranks seventh in game-winning goals (29), sixth in points (425), fifth in goals (209) and fourth in power-play goals (96).

The Melrose, Mass., native was originally chosen by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round (No. 19) in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft and moved with the franchise to Phoenix in 1996. He came to the Blues at the trading deadline in March 2001, was dealt to Atlanta at the deadline in 2007 but re-signed with the Blues that summer.

hmmm if the Nucks end up playing LA or PHX it might be worth making a trip down south.....could probably get a flight and tix for the same or less than a game at GM Place, and it would be so worth it for playoffs.

So Canucks will either face L.A., Detroit or Nashville.

Games left for each team:

(98)Detroit vs. Columbus and Chicago
(98)Nashville vs. St. Louis
(97)L.A. vs. Phoenix, Edmonton and Colorado

Carolina got the all star game next year if anyone cares.

But you won't be getting any of the playoff atmosphere, which is most of what you pay for

No, it was my opinion.

And in the opinion of the 50 that were in the ESPN poll, he was chosen as the most overrated player more than any other player.

And the opinion of of the 272 that were in the Sports Illustrated poll, he was chosen the most out of any goalie. As far as the source, here you go.

So we're all talking about opinions here. You can feel free to disagree, but trying to discredit these opinions is just a waste of time.

So like I said regarding these polls, the far more interesting thing to me is the reluctance of NHL players to call goalies "overrated". At least that is my opinion

I always thought Luongo was alil overrated. So i looked at his #'s compared to other top goalies in the league (Brodeur, Nabakov, Vokoun, Kipprusoff, Miller, Lundqvist, Backstrom) over the passed couple seasons and the only goalie to have consistently better #'s than him is Brodeur. He'll more than likely get more Vezina Trophy Nominations than any other goalie, but he'll most likely get beat out by a different goalie every other year.

This year is his worst year as a Canuck i believe though. World Best Goalie? Nope, Top 5? Definately cause u wont find another goalie that hasnt had a shitty year in the passed 5 years like Luongo has had this year. Maybe just Brodeur.....

I doubt they'll be as many Canucks fans if the Canucks do end up playing the Kings because they should be able to sell out playoff tickets to the locals.

No, you were basing it on the original poll of 50 players.

Do you agree you were completely wrong in your original post, where you said:

So rather than thinking "only 3 players said he's the most overrated" consider it about 40-50 players. In any case, his name will come up more than anyone else. But if you want to argue with these guys, go for it.

Okay, cool... so he was the most chosen goalie out of the 272 polled. But you still realize how statistically insignificant those results are, right?

As in three out of 272 players chose him. That's 1.1% of the people choosing him. And both Turco and Price got two votes, or 0.74%. And that's just 0.36% less than Luongo. You do realize that if all 700+ players were polled, Luongo COULD easily not be the top goalie in the poll, right? Yes, he could be, but he could just as easily be not.

Quote:
So we're all talking about opinions here. You can feel free to disagree, but trying to discredit these opinions is just a waste of time.
My main argument all along was with you claiming that Luongo is definitely the most overrated PLAYER in the league, solely based on the 50 players ESPN poll. Even with the Sports Illustrated poll with him as the most overrated GOALIE in the league, it's still not by any stretch of the imagination a slam dunk conclusion if all players were polled.

So bottom line is it cannot be stated with any real degree of certainty that Luongo is the goalie, nevermind player, that is thought of as the most overrated if all players were polled.
