Luongo, Canucks agree on extension
The Vancouver Canucks and all-star goaltender Roberto Luongo will have a deal on an extension in place before the start of training camp, sportsnet.ca has confirmed.
The had agreed reached a deal in principle, with only minor details left to be worked out. The term and salary have been agreed upon and an official announcement is expected sometime before the club opens their camp on Sept. 13, the date Luongo had set as a deadline for negotiations.
The Montreal native will make $7.5 million in 2009-10, the final year of a four-year deal he signed in June 2006.
Luongo, 30, went 33-13 last season with a 2.34 GAA and posted nine shutouts. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/...uongo_canucks/

Interesting - back when we had one of the highest scoring teams, we were weak defensively. Now that we're strong on D and in net, our offense is the question-mark.

Just quoting what sportsnet claims that's all.

I still say Canucks are a bit lacking in the offensive department to be considered a balanced (and fearsome) team.
Not that decent offense and good defense with a great goaltender can't win the cup, but I wouldn't say "stacked" yet.

We've just been plugging holes by making others. MG's gamble right now is that by stacking from the net out, his bus load of 20 & 30 goal scorers will be enough to go all-the-way.
It's not the principal ideal of being strong all around but its not a bad way to go either. I prefer stacking from the frontwards in like DET, PIT, CHI but that's just my "personal" preference.

I'm taking a shot @ Sportsnet for jumping the gun and claiming they've agreed on an extension when nothing is signed.

I'm not going to lie.
I'm pretty damn excited. If the reports/rumours are true, that would be an IDEAL contract.
And in true Martin Brodeaur fashion.

To be honest I hate going on the sportsnet website.I go to their site maybe a few times a year as I like TSN way more and rely I usually don't think too much of anything unless I see it on TSN first. But this was a rare case involving big news for us so thought id post anyways. Although watching sportsnet is dope since they show more canucks shiet. Now the waiting begins!

If you don't belive the sportsnet article, global early news led with the story right off the top as "breaking news"

I think everyone believes. Really sportsnets article today isn't really anything different then what we've been hearing the past couple months. That is talk between the Canucks and Luongo are good and we're close. I just wanna hear confirmed he's signed as I'm getting pretty tired of it haha.

I'm not too worried offensively, I mean it would have been nice to pick up a high impact forward but I think we have a very well rounded team to do some serious damage going into the new season.
