More details about Lu's new contract

http://www.nationalpost.com/sports/s...tml?id=1963084

Quote:
The first comes five years into the extension. If Luongo isn't pleased with where the team is at, or where it's heading, he can then trigger a trade. The out clause is timed for what should be an organizational crossroads - one year after the Sedins' current long-term deal is up. The Canucks have agreed to accommodate the request by moving Luongo at that point.
Quote:
Two years later, after the contract extension's seventh year, the Canucks have a reciprocal clause. If they want to go in another direction, they will have an opportunity to move Luongo despite his no-trade clause.

^ Interesting. I didn't know that a "Reciprocal Clause" existed that can circumvent the "No-Trade Clause"

Those are some great clauses for both sides.

Could be, depending on how this clause is supposed to work:

If the franchise cannot decline and must oblige to a player's trade request, it could put the franchise in a very disadvantageous trading position.

Big brother looking out for their own best interest?

REPORT: CANADA'S NHL TEAMS COULD FACE TRAVEL ISSUES IN USA

A decision by the United States Department of Transportation could have a major impact on Canadian teams in the National Hockey League this season, reports the National Post.

The Department of Transportation in the United States has banned Air Canada's charter planes from flying from one American city to another.

"It's potentially a very significant impact," NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly told Canwest News Services on Friday. "It's crazy and very destabilizing to our business. We're operating on a long-standing interpretation and for it to change overnight on the eve of our season is creating a huge problem for us."

Prior to a recent August ruling by the U.S. government, charter flights that carried sports teams could make several stops in American cities. The new ruling means the charters can only make one stop before heading back to Canada.

In retaliation, Canadian officials have launched an investigation to determine if they will take similar action against charters carrying sports teams from the United States.

"It's extremely messy for both American and Canadian teams," Air Canada executive vice president Duncan Dee told Canwest. "It was a unilateral action imposed without consultation or Air Canada being able to defend itself. It's obvious the U.S. Department of Transportation doesn't watch hockey."

Officials in the United States had been looking into a small number of instances of passengers - injured players or team officials – on the plane boarding in one city and then leaving the charter in another city, a violation of the original agreement.

Pretty interesting. Besides the NHL though, who else does it impact? USL? Blue Jays? Is that about it?

Who would the Canucks have to offer as an equivalent to the Edmonton deal the Oil offered to the Sens?

Canucks would have to give up significant prospect for heatley probably just because the sens either need a whole building core or an instant impact player, we could really only give them B line players and prospects without seriously effecting our team

even a Bieksa is no where near enough not by a long shot

If it were even true I don't even know how that is even possible at all lol. Hawks are fucked trying to sign Toews and Kane next year as it is and has invested long term in Hossa. To be able to clear enough room now to fit Heatley long term + signing Kane and Toews would be impossible unless they want to be the next Tampa where they had like 20 million invested in their top 3 forwards and no was left with no goalie, no D, and no secondary scoring. Yay!

Um...iunno what city you've been living in, but Dan Cloutier was probably one of the worst goalies we had when we had and amazing offence. I dont' know how smart of an idea it would be to use a goaltender as an enforcer
