Its a pity that Luc Bourdon passed away as he would have fitted that position perfectly.
I'd consider Salo, Erhoff and to a lesser extent Bieksa as offensive defensemen. Mind you, they're no Brian Campbell but they can put a couple in the net from time to time.

Probably not the same incident, but I was in 314, and there was a single Chicago fan that was stirring the pot after every Blackhawks goal... and after the 4th or 5th, people started throwing small pieces of garbage at him, and he incited the behaviour and told them to throw more... and security actually came over and told THAT guy to leave... LoL... but in the end, things settled down and he was allowed to stay.

When I was leaving, a guy in a Burrows jersey was getting physically escorted down the stairs to go outside, and once there he was tackled to the ground and was held there. The story was that apparently he kicked a kid in the head earlier.

Yeah, I'm absolutely embarrassed by the behaviour of some of our fans. Everyone should be able to watch the game without feeling threatened. I've spent many years going to watch the Canucks at the Pepsi Center (in Colorado) when I lived there and not once have I ever felt threatened. Sure I've had the occasional "Canucks suck" being shouted but it was all in good fun. Never once have I had stuff thrown at me or been physically assaulted.

Also, I hope they catch whoever threw those water bottles and beer cup. One of those water bottle nearly hit someone and there's no need for that. Boo all you want, but the last thing I want to see at a game is someone getting hurt by a stupid fans actions.

People need to remember that a hockey game is a family event. Kids don't need to see unruly adults and parents don't need to have to have to worry about the safety of their children when they go to a game.

Lidstrom will never leave the Wings franchise. Sundin left because he was treated like shit by the media, and management during his last year. The Wings have treated Lidstrom first-class all the way.
At 5.5 he's unreadable?

Your actually trying to say no team would take him at 5.5?...

But it seemed like they never showed up. Sure, they won in LA but can you really say that was a solid effort by the team? 60% PK? If the Canucks were weather-men, they'd be fired. Louie and his rebounds?

Is this an effort any of those guys would be proud of? Can they really hold their heads up high? Losing isn't the end of the world...playing like you already lost is.

A surprising number of people don't know that Rocky actually lost in that first fight against Apollo Creed...but goddamn, there was a hell of a fight in that man and no one would fault him on any of it.

I mentioned it on Twitter and to friends...this team lacks a hero...a guy with heart and soul beyond just his skill and stats. Trevor Linden was a man like that. I thought Louie would be that guy after that first season in that series against Dallas and then again against Anaheim. I thought Kesler after what we witnessed in the Olympics...but none of those guys stepped up when we needed them the most. No one said "C'mon boys...hop on my back...we're going to win this thing even if I die right after."
Its not a hero, its leadership. It was said last night after the game, Lu needs to own up to his mistakes and tell the team that he can do better so that they can follow, like a motivational mentality. Kesler isn't a leader player I don't see it especially during this playoff series.

I've been a long time canuck fan and will continue to be a fan in the future, but these canucks sure do know how to mess with ones emotions. These canucks were underdogs going into this series and it's not a real surprise the hawks took the series, but to have the nucks play as well as they did in game one on the road and lead 2-0 in game two, got me really believing that we were going to take this series.

The shorthanded goal by Sharp in game two was the "TSN turning point" of this series, the hawks just kept coming and rarely took their foot off the gas pedal.

The thing i am really disappointed was the lack of adjustments we were able to make. I'm looking at you AV!!! The hawks didn't surprise us in anyway, they enforced the exact game plan on us as they did last year - early pressure on our dmen and buttugly in front of luongo - and what did we do about it? nothing!!!!

I admire salo and his desire to play, but one has to ask, if you can barley skate, can't even take a slap shot, are you really helping to hurting the team?? I'm going with the ladder and salo clearly was a liability last night. I'm was shocked when AV didn't dress 7 dmen knowing this scenario may come up.

Although this series ended in 6 games, our asses were clearly handed to us. If Mike Gillis plans on winning games in the playoffs, he needs to revamp or defense. We luckily escaped LA, letting an avg of 3 goals per game, with CHI, avg of 3.9. We can't expect to go far in the playoffs with numbers like that.

i'm emotionally exhusted, I'm out...

yeaa.. also fans throwing beer cup and canucks' jersey on the ice at the end of the game was stupid...

im not saying i would do it, but if i really have to throw a beer cup to express my feeling, ill toss those over Hawks' bench or even Canucks' bench and not the ice.. Go big or go home.. stop doing stupid little things to delay the game.

Loud mocking cheering when LUUU stop a rolling puck near the end was not nesscesary either, why would someone do that? It's also hurting i was surrounded by bunch of bandwagoners starts to say FUCK canucks, Go hwaks comments.

Luongo's contract has a NTC - that's what makes him un-tradeable, not his cap hit or salary.

What if it wasn't Salo's call to make? Lots of coaches pressure their players to play through injury. It just depends on each coach on how far or severe an injury they'll still push a player to play.

Example:

Sheldon Souray wants out of Edmonton because of the souring with his relationship with management. One of the reasons cited was Souray previously pressured to play despite his injury not yet healed 100% and was thrown under the bus when he couldn't perform to expectations.

(I don't know what that injury was though)

edit:
I'm not saying it's either right or wrong to play a player through injury. I just wanted to point out an example of players being forced to play through injury.

At the end of the day, it's really a coaches call whether an injured player hurts or helps his team more than an call-up-plug would do. With AV, obviously it seems like it was a bad gamble to roll the dice on Salo but we also don't know if other factors influenced his decision. Factors like defensive depth. I believe our usual call-ups in Baumgartner and Rome are both also injured and unavailable.

I completely forgot about the NTC, but thanks for reminding all of us. But, even at $5.5, I don't think anyone's going to bite because the bloody contract is 12 years. DiPietro's 15-year contract looks like a bargain in comparison.

I still think Luongo's a good goaltender and I wanted to believe that he was going to come through, but the fact is that he didn't. The question now is what are we going to do with Luongo? He has a huge ego (due to both the media and management), so how do you strip the captaincy from him gracefully, hire a sports psychologist to deal with his mind, and rest him 20+ games to keep him fresh for the playoffs?

The guy throwing his jersey on the ice was pretty sad, so was all the people leaving with 5 to go. Yes I realize the game was over but still - IMO bandwagon mentality. Sure the fans are disappointed, sure the team didn't play well but it just goes to show how quickly people will turn in this town.

It's sad that this town has enough money to consistently sell out yet the lower bowl is rarely full. I know I saw a handful of empty seats right by centre-ice last night in a do-or die game. People down there always show up late, leave early and use the games as a social event instead of to support "their" team.

As for the team, yeah, we have to get rid several guys and make some changes. Starting with Demitra, Mitchell (liability), Salo and Bieksa. AV's gotta get off Lu's dick, have some expectation of him and give the C to someone else.

IIHF here I come - I love watching players with some heart.

Not really shocked. If I was paying $200+ to watch the Canucks get eliminated, I'd be a little pissed off and considering our goalie did not show up at all, he seems like a prime candidate to receive some boos.

Why do people keep knocking this as if this was exclusive only to Canucks fans.

Everyone must be blind if they don't see the same phenomenon happening to the 29 other clubs. There's always a margin of people leaving on varying minutes or stages of the game.

This has been Luongo's worst season so it can only get better. U guys wanna trade a guy who obviously can get us into the playoffs, passed the 1st round, who does has the potential to take us to the promised land for a Goalie that has no experience, unproven who were gonna bank on having a Halak type playoff? But strip Luongo as the captain, just let him stop pucks instead of having the added pressure which is something he doesnt need to have.

We had the 2nd best offence in the league this year so scoring aint an issue.

And who said we need a Offensive defensemen? We have Erhoff, Edler, Salo even Bieksa.

What i believe we need is a bonafide checking line and with a pair of shutdown defencemen. The blackhawks had an answer for the Sedins with there Bolland checking line but we simply didnt have an answer for the Toews-Kane line.

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Raymond-Kesler-Grabner
Samuellson-Wellwood-

Honestly Trade Bernier for Sammy Pahlsson
Is Jere Lehtinen any good anymore? i remember him being a Selke finalists a couple times and hes a free agent this upcoming season.
Rypien has to learn to be good at something other than fighting.
I honestly think Ryan Johnson is only good at blocking shots and faceoffs and thats it.
Get rid of Hordichuk.

On defense i dont have a clue cause of Mitchells status. I love O'brien but hes an average Defenseman with alot of intensity.

Those are all minor adjustments and really wouldn't make much of a difference. Last year, the minor adjustment of acquiring SOB and Sundin improved the team.

This year the minor adjustment of Erhoff and Samuelson made the team even better; but nowhere near close to a cup.

If we wanted toughness in fighters, Alaign Vigneault had Hordichuk and Rypien that wasn't used in the Play Offs.

If you want hitters, we had Glass, Bernier, Edler et al.

If you want checkers we had Kesler + Burrows.

Canucks had adequate assets in their arsenal to succeed. It really just depends on their management and utilization.

Now, I just can't determine whether the lack of success stems from coach for underutilizing his assets, or the team for poor execution.

Wrong.

The common misconception (and major pet peeve of mine) is that a NTC means the player can't be traded. That is completely untrue.

NTC just means that the player has the veto power to decide where they get traded.
