| Mobil 1 Pushing The Limit to 1 Million Miles
Mobil 1 puts their oils and gasolines to the test on a 1990 BMW 325i running it for 4 years straight up to 1,000,000 Miles.
Take a look - Mobile 1 Australia
Sorry if this is a repost but cool nonetheless.

Is this a plug for the E30 you own now?
Nice find, both the car and fluids are quality stuff.

Not bad, but I'm sure some of it was marketing. Any synthetic Oil will do fine like Amsoil. |

i wonder how the oil will perform under high stress like lots hard driving/spirited driving.
since this test was done with daily commute conditions(re: light stress), every oil should be able to perform the same if oil changes r done on a regular basis.

Many cars that use this stuff already have 15000-20000km oil changes. Nowhere close to 1m, but a whole lot better than 5000km.

Now the bigger question, is the oil they are using the same as the off the shelf stuff at crappy tire or stupid store?
Quite a few s2000 owners who use Mobil 1 are also have timing chain tensioner issues. I for one use oils other than Mobil 1 and do not have any issues with my TCT.

^ What does your timing chain tensioner have to do with the oil used? Or I should ask, specifically what problems are they encountering?

Hmm doesn't look like this test was really that tough on the car, "mostly at 85" this isn't really stop and go driving here... Every 7500 miles isn't pushing it at all.
Lol the video is so cheesy and 90s, looks like an older episode of TSN's Motoring or whatever that show was called.

Anyone with a newer vehicle that has the oil life system on it, knows that 5,000 km oil changes were always just bunk.
It all depends on how you drive.

The biggest test on oil is low pressure start ups when there is little to no oil up top.
And high temperature oil break down. I don't think constant driving at one speed will be too hard on the oil.
As for the TCT, not too sure, but everyone on S2ki that are having issues have been using Mobil 1.
