Tried out Barber & Co (financial district location on Hornby). Went with Josh as per my coworkers recommendation. I got an undercut and Josh did a fairly good job on the fades, however, I specifically told him to leave the length and the top and he snipped off 2 inches of it. Since then I've been going back to JD's Barbershop as their staff not only do sick ass fades, but also know how to listen to instructions.

For all the guys who have a significant other (or good friend rofl) shave their heads, what kind of machines and where did you buy? I'm at the point where it's a little retarded to pay $17 2x a month for them to spend 10 minutes shaving my head and another 25 minutes fucking around on 3 hairs to make it look like they deserve to get paid $17.

I want to buy a good machine, I just don't really know what a good one is or where the best place to buy it is.

Any help is much appreciated.

Johhny at Uppercut in Kits. He use to be my JD's guy, but now he's running his own shop.

I compare all my cuts to a Johnny Cut. Good guy.

I've been cutting my hair for at least 10 years now. I have three hair dresses in my family and they all use WAHL hair clippers.

Therefore, I use WAHL. It was a hand me down from my mom and she has had it for over 15 years. So these things last.

Check out WAHL clippers

+1 for WAHL, you can find those anywhere. I was using a WAHL for awhile. My wife who's a hairdresser recently bought me an 'Andis Pivotpro'. This thing is a beast.

For those of you who get your head shaved, do you do it yourself or get someone to do it? I just sit in the bathtub with a mirror and shave my own head then shower right away after. It took a few times to get right but it's easy as shit now :woot2:

Picked up an Oster Fastfeed @ Sally's beauty salon 3 or 4 years ago and it's still going strong. I believe it was ~$120.

Great clips, which I find very hit or miss. Lately I've been having a hairdresser friend cut my hair, and she comes to my place and charges no more than great clips either, so it works out well.

If I could cut my own hair, I would be using the money I save to buy more beer and weed.

Most of you who are trying to save money are trying to save 15 bucks every 3-4 weeks.... strong budgeting... I guess getting your hair cut at a place for 15 bucks isn't that much of a step up from getting it cut yourself.

... you know we are talking about people with shaved heads, right? If you pay more than $15 to get your head shaved than you are just pissing money away for no reason. And if you think there is some magic in using a #1 guard properly that can't be replicated by a layperson with a good clipper and some patience then I have a bridge to sell you...

+1 for Wahl. Make sure you take care of it properly -- oil it every now and then. We had an old one that we never took care of, and it eventually died after 10 years or something. Our new one has been going strong for 5+ with no signs of deteriorating.

I've been cutting my own hair as well.

I use this:

Buy the Philips Do-It-Yourself clipper do-it-yourself hair clipper QC5550/15

I am pretty sure there are a large number of people here who don't pay more than 15 bucks for a hair cut and don't have shaved heads.. only the last page or two have been talking about buzzing their head.

DIY haircuts eh, thought I can add my 2 cents...

I been giving myself and my little bros some sick ass haircuts with this Philips here, http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Norelc...rds=philips+qc
I highly recommend it. $80 shipped from Amazon, I do it exactly the way I want it 100% of the time every time, better than going to salons every 2 weeks all 3 of us like I used too..
I cut the top of my head with the big attachment once every 2 weeks, and I touch up/fade the sides and back every few days with the small attachment.
rotating head is fcking key to the magic, otherwise you'd never be able to do the back of your head yourself... as well as that smaller attachment that allows the cut down to the mm, for those tight fades

http://images.philips.com/is/image/P...fit&$jpgsmall$

this is the exact same cut I give myself and my bros since we're all basketball players and sweat a lot

Might be a little off topic but what is proper tip percentage?
Is it like a restaurant? 15% and up depending on how you like the cut?

spideyv2 09-19-2015 04:11 PM

If the haircut is $20, I usually throw the guy another $5
