I oil the blades before every use and they are fine |
Normally cut every 2 weeks. It has been like 7 or 8 I lost track. I bought clippers at the beginning of this just in case but haven't had the balls to do it yet. There have been like 5 times where I almost did only to say nah fuck it lol. |
got my wife to do it for me and it turned out really good...youtube is a great resource..lol |

I'm so scared of pulling a #1 |
gf bought a pair of scissors, last night I trimmed some of my hair with the thinning scissors and just cut away at some obviously overgrown areas. |
I'm definitely going to pull a #1. No fade and terrible top. |

I use to get a cut every 2 to 3 weeks, so I've been wearing a hat everyday now. I can try a fade, but if I fuck it up I can just shave everything off |

You'd end up like this if you don't pull out and go all the way to the end where you draw your line. And the reason for that is because not everyone have their top hair supershort (specially not at this time) to pull it off with the way youtuber does it. The tip I'd give is to use your middle finger as guide, with the biggest spacer, do up to where you have the last phalange and start pulling out (kinda like drawing a circle out). Once you've done it around the head, get the second longest spacer, and this time, start pulling out when you are past the first finger phalange. Do it around the head. Last, bring out an even shorter spacer or no spacer at all if you want to go really short, and start pulling out from the beginning. This way, you create the 3 different layers in equal length with the Youtube cut. Last but not least, once you are done with what I just mentioned, separate your top section into 4 parts horizontally (across your head from left-right). Then work one section at a time. I just comb all the hair forward, turn the clipper with the longest spacer upside down, and kinda start brushing my hair through. I started doing my hair first and it turned out like crap. :fuckthatshit: But that's the tips I learned doing my own hair and I was able to do an ok job on my kids. |
After some youtube videos, my shaved head isn't that bad at all. It could be better, but I like it. |

Lots of stock at Brighton Costco. Only a 20 min lineup to get in at at the peak this afternoon. Would've preferred the Wahl kit for $39.99 that I've also heard about but not available at this location. I haven't tried cutting my own hair since the early 2000s. Might just F trying to do a good job and go straight for the Joe Exotic look. |
Can anybody recommend a good YouTube tutorial? |
Hair cutters...your job is safe. Will risk the virus when they start opening up. My wife did a terrible job and I have no confidence it'll improve. I'm not going to be a slimeball and return these one time used clippers back to costco. If anyone wanna throw a lowball offer for my $70 wireless clippers I'll consider it. |

From experience, if you're trying to cut your own hair, part of the challenge is having the dexterity to look at the mirrors reflection in another mirror, and moving your arms/hands/wrists accordingly. Something I thought which helped was having the clipper turned off and just going through the casual motions to get the muscle memory down. I had a hell of a time figuring out how best to hold the mirror in 1 hand while trying to cut with the other, until I found this video and saw how he held the mirror. |
Being right handed, I did alright on my right side but had a hell of a time trying to do the left side of my head. |
