I really wish I didn't have to do this (dog for adoption)

It breaks my heart that it has to come to this... My girlfriend picked up a cute Yorkie/JRT mix in January 2008. Due to our circumstances - my GF is leaving for school overseas for a long period of time and me, being a full time student (putting in 12 hour days), we think that it is best for our dog as well as for us to find a great family for her.

She (Chewie) is a sweet and energetic female who is spayed and updated with all shots/vaccines and no health issues (we kept the vet papers). She's very intelligent but at the same time has quite a dominant nature. We have been working to correct this, but she still needs a bit of work - mostly with attention. For this reason we do not recommend anyone who is looking for his/her first dog. She does get a bit nervous on car rides and we would not recommend sharing a home with small children or smaller pets. She is generally okay with larger and/or older dogs.

We have taught her numerous commands and she is very willing and capable of picking up many others. She has been potty trained to hold and do her business outside (in the backyard or when we take her for walks). She loves to go out for walks as she does have lots of energy that we try to wear down throughout the day. She loves to play fetch and generally follow you around the house as most indoor dogs do. She weighs somewhere around 12-13lbs at the moment, and she probably won't get any larger than she is now.

She'll come with everything her new home would need: Playpen, numerous toys, doggy bed and kennel, food bowls and a generous supply of food/treats and also collar/leash w/ a walking harness.

Here are some pics of her:

Again she is up for adoption. We are asking for NO monetary compensation. Of course, we would prefer someone who comes as a good reference. I know this would be difficult but in this case I would prefer a person/family who is recommended or well known to the forum/community.

We have already submitted our request to some of the animal rescues in the lower mainland (we found them through our trainer) and would not want to leave her at a shelter to give away to just any family.

Please feel free to contact myself or my girlfriend:

piggichewy[at]hotmail.com

Serious inquiries only and if you happen to have some friends who fit the criteria, please pass them our contact info. Also, we are open to suggestions; if you know of any non-profit rescue groups that have room for a fit/healthy dog please let us know. We are confident that she will go quickly, so we'd like to be able to pick the best option for herd. Sorry for the long-winded post. Thanks for looking...

Wow again people that don't think long term when picking up a dog or cat.
Sorry but just tired of hearing about young people that pick up a dog or cat and then a year down the road their lives are changing more and more and can no longer keep the animal.

I hope you find a suitable proper home for this little pup.

Hey guys,

Thanks to everybody who looked into this thread. I'm happy to say that we've found an awesome home for Chewie and they'll be able to spend lots and lots of time giving her all the care and attention she needs.

Yes, my girlfriend and I have learned a valuable lesson in all of this. We will not be looking to get another dog for a long time to come. Again, thanks to everyone who took the time.

Harold

I would have picked her up if I didn't have a dog already
