I thought this movie was average hollywood stuff.
And dont say I didn't understand the issues behind it because I did and I think it's delivery was very hollywood-esque. This movie, imo, did not excel in any particular area of action, acting, or whatever the hell else there is. I must admit I am not a huge sci-fi guy but I like good movies and this movie didn't really seem to provide much substance or engagement.

and what's with those aliens? you'd think terrestrial beings capable of that sort of travel would look like something other than a life sized dung beetle; and maybe have a higher intelligence rating than that of a common roof shingle

My friend and I watched it, and we thought it was one of the worst movie we saw this summer.
I'm usually OK with gory stuff, but because the camera was shaking so much in the beginning, I literally felt like puking throughout the whole movie.
We are wondering why did everyone like it so much? Was it the action? Or was there a message in between we missed out?
So what are my friend and I missing out?

If this is just any action movie, like GI Joe, Transformers etc., then I have to say I didn't like it at all.

District 9 is not an action movie
there's action in it but no way in hell was it GIJOE or Transformers
you were misled by the trailers/previews

It might be an age thing, I wouldn't feel too badly about it but I wouldn't be running around saying it's a bad movie because it's just action. That would be like saying a SLR camera sucks because it takes pictures like any other camera or that a Neurosurgeon isn't anything special because they're just another doctor. |

Well, everyone is going to say "oh, but look at the parallels between the movie and humans today/historically!11!!". That's the issue and it's an obvious one, if you can't see that right off the bat, you're probably retarded.
Anyways, I agree, this movie was crappy because people hyped it up to much. But if I was to remain as objective as possible, it's an average Hollywood movie = boring.
I found the depiction of the alien bodies quite interesting and found that the employment of a similar caste system by the aliens (be it genetic or whatever) to be intriguing as well. Essentially, I found why certain things were done they way they were more interesting than the movie and the message behind the movie itself.

But might have a chance of being a sci-fi classic in the near future.

i thought it was nicely done. The fact it started off likea documentary and then seeing it being in the slums was quite cool. Then seeing how humans can interact with alien was also interesting.
The story really started to pick up when the guy got in shit and I was just so glued to the monitor. For a budget of 30 million dollars, this was an epic success. It just show how a good script and diff styles of filming can get thigns done.
The battle scenes and are guns and the action was pretty decent. I really really liked it.
will there be a district 10? no idea, but if they do have a great script, i wouldn't mind.

Ok movie, but didn't like the camera work - that shaky camera effect made me feel nauseous. (Or maybe it was just the dinner I had that night :P)
