http://foodosophy.wordpress.com/2009...t-portland-me/ gf found this place after i had come back from my portland day trip recently, looks pretty tasty  Edit by bcrdukes - Please note that this restaurant is located in Portland, Maine, not Portland, Oregon. :p |
Baguette Box was pretty good after I heard someone on RS said to try it out. |
^ Yup! Baguette Box was pretty good. I could not finish it. :p |

Hey don't mean to bump this thread back up but any places you guys would recommend checking out in regards to either shopping, food or night life for Portland? Planning to head there for the weekend. So far I got down Lloyd Center, Pioneer Place, Nordstrom Rack, Washington Square Mall, and the Woodburn Outlet for shopping based off the search on RS. |

As for food, I made an effort to try some of their many food cart choices. It's pretty neat- in downtown they have a few streets where it's just a sidewalk of food carts. In the "burbs", you can find city lots that just house food carts. I hope it gets to that level here in Vancouver. If you have time, I'd suggest hitting up the most popular ones (a quick yelp/urbanspoon/Eat St./etc search will suffice) as they'll require some driving in some cases. Note that they could be closed down, so do check ahead. I ran into that problem for one of the BBQ places I wanted to try. |
le Bistro Montage Closes at 2AM(Sun-Thurs)/4AM(Fri/Sat) too. If you like deep fried oysters, add it to your jambalaya for $3, they give you a shit load of them which makes it worth the $3. Also try the Gooey Butter Cake for dessert. And if you have leftovers they wrap it up with tinfoil folded into random things (waste of perfectly good tinfoil), like vases, animal shapes, etc. |

There's not much night life in Portland IMO. Portland's best for tax free shopping and the food carts. There's some interesting areas too if you haven't been before. For eats: 1. PokPok - MUST VISIT THIS! Awesome Thai snack food drinking place for lunch or dinner. Must get the Fish Sauce Wings, Pok Pok Salad and anything else. You'll thank me for this!!! Get there early for dinner. 2. Nong's Khao Man Gai. Thai chicken rice (similar to Haianese chicken rice) get the Piset size (Large). Their chicken is soooo moist, rice so flavourful, liver that comes with it is awesome. So is the soup and dipping sauce. I ate here 3 times in my last 3 day trip. 3. Podnah's pit (BBQ). This place is pretty awesome too the ribs are smoked for like 8+ hrs. Can't find any better ribs in Vancouver than this place. 4. Voodoo donut for the novelty but IMO it's overrated. 5. Kenny & Zuke's Delicatessen. They smoke and make all their own pastrami and corned beef. Good sandwhiches and the best Motza ball soup EVER!!! 7. Any of the top 5 places on Urbanspoon or Yelp is a sure bet. Tip: Most food carts only open on weekdays from 11am - 3pm or whenever they sell out. So plan your food cart eating accordingly. For interesting areas: 1. Go visit nob hill - it's kind like a commercial drive meets robson neighbourhood 2. Take the tram from the Oregon hospital from waterfront up to the hospital - this offers a great view the Williamette river and Mt Hood. 3. If you are visiting in the weekend Sat/Sun. Go visit the farmer's market in the Downtown Waterfront. It's free and there's all these market vendors and food stalls there Shopping: Anywhere really. Pioneer Square, Lloyd Center. Outlets (if you wanna drive far) |

I usually stay at a hotel (Comfort Inn - Ramada) by the Airport. It's pretty good by the Airport too cause within 10-15 minutes by highway you are in DT Portland and there's also a Target and IKEA nearby in case you wanna pick anything up. It's like $75 bucks a night with a hot breakfast included for 2ppl per room. That's hella cheap and good value. You may even be able to find a 2 queen bed room for $85-$100 ish. For anything Downtown it's like $150+ a night plus $ for internet, parking, breakfast. That'll run you $200 bucks per room per couple easy |
go to the jade lounge in portland, good variety of food :D |
I'm heading down with a group on the long weekend and we're staying at the 3.5 star Crowne Plaza in Tigard, which is about 20 minutes south of Downtown Portland. We got it for $59/night on Priceline. |
^ Theres a Frys Electronics store in Tigard if you guys are down for that kind of shopping as well. |
what about brewery tours, tasting tours? |
+1 on PokPok. It's amazing. Show up early and enjoy everything on the menu. |
