no its not

a mazda 3 for example 160hp 150 torque is enough to get around town yes

114? not even close

hk20000 07-14-2009 01:50 PM

It's enough just look at how fast HK Taxis can go around town with 88bhp.

it's 20% car 80% skillz.

prius only has like 80hp, and it gets around just fine. and its prob bigger than this car. gas powered honda civics had just over 100hp for years, they didnt get around town ok?

twitchyzero 07-14-2009 07:40 PM

asian_XL 07-14-2009 09:55 PM

Thats around the Honda Fit/Toyota Yaris category. And just look at how many Fit and Yaris there are in the city.

This car will probably get offered with a $2000 eco rebate too.

:lol

You don't even need 100hp to putt around town. My old 65hp VW Bug had more than enough power to drive around town, so don't tell me a car with twice the power (and even with twice the weight) wont do it.

Black SC2 07-15-2009 10:09 PM

Propane is a nice choice for maintenance too. Fewer oil changes, fewer plug changes, less fowling pretty much the whole way through the engine. Don't know if that was factored into the savings estimate, or if that was just in fuel savings, either way it's a nice way to go. This could be a good little commuter/ student car.

asian_XL 07-15-2009 11:24 PM

^ propane cars use x 2 as much to produce the same power as gasoline.

but propane is dirty cheap, I can't remember how much per L you can get at local gas station.

meh. i still remember my old 87 tercel with all it's screaming 70-ish horsepower trying to pass transit buses.... and failing

Inaii 07-16-2009 11:02 AM

My car has 105hp and does perfectly fine, even with some of the large hills in the Coquitlam/PoMo area.

I like the front end of the Elantra.

Source on that one? Common wisdom is that you'll lose about 10% fuel efficiency on a straight conversion vs. gas. And almost none if the engine is built specifically for LPG.

asian_XL 07-20-2009 01:04 AM

source is from the research done by the HK government on HK LPG taxi and the feedback from the taxi drivers...it was on the news last year when gas was hitting the peak.

2.0L Toyota LPG 4cyclinder 88hp RWD, 2700lb taxi....they are saying LPG gets shitty milages, but it's only 1/5 of pump gas price.
