Generally even the police arent too bad. Just watch out around TET, they even bust expats and foreigners. Ive also found that Vietnamese in the clubs here are 100 times more friendly and approachable whether or not a Vietnamese guy wants to cheers with you or approaching girls. etc. As long as you treat everyone with respect here for the most part its all good.
Saigon^ | i will be making a 1 week trip to hue so mb we can have a rs meet there lol

Hanoi and Saigon can battle it out for the dirtiest. Both pretty bad when you compare them to the other cities. But at the same time Saigon with 9million(est), Hanoi 6million(est), cant really compare with the 3rd largest city Da Nang, at only 1million.

I've got a question for people that have gotten Vietnamese travel visas:
The application form asks you to submit a 4cm x 6cm photo. Canadian passport photos are 5cm x 7cm. Can I submit a 5x7 photo, or does it have to be 4x6?
EDIT: nvm, emailed the embassy and they said 5x7 photos are also accepted

I'm going to Hai Phong in the next couple weeks. Meeting a friend I haven't seen since high school, and he was one of my best friends at the time. Should be fun! I'll be happy to have someone help with communication, and I'll be able to bypass the huge dirty city and go straight to smaller towns and villages.

depends on what part of the city you're in. in saigon, district 1,2,3,7 are clean... hanoi is the same thing, the old quarter and hoan kiem area are super clean.
you shoulda seen vietnam 5-7 years ago, now THAT was dirty. Quote:

passport and visas are 2 completely different things, so if they ask for a 4x6 photo, what do you think? Quote:

Boss, do you work at Diamond Bay? Is #1 club still there?
The Vietnamese in Vietnam are way more baller than the ones in Vancouver. Guys driving Bentley's, Porsche, etc. Those cars are taxed like 200% or something.
Just met a guy in Da Nang who paid 200,000usd to import a brand new skyline.
For many of the people who have money in smaller cities, even Da Nang, they dont know how to spend their money. Thats not to say they are stupid with thier money but just tend to save and still live in an average house and drive a motorbike.
True story about a guy who was a farmer near HCMC. He walked into a dealership to buy a new Audi with a garbage bag full of cash. He didnt have a licence and couldnt drive the car so the dealership drove him back in the car to his farm. Once at the farm he hired the guy who drove him back to be his personal driver.

What's there to "watch out" for in Hai Phong? In my experience, gangsters are safer than any other criminal. Whether it's in Hong Kong or Japan or even Viets in Vancouver, if you don't involve yourself with them, they'll want to have nothing to do with you. It's the skids who break into your car, and lowlife pickpockets that you have to worry about, not the gangsters. They're only really dangerous to other gangsters...

No#1 is a club in nha trang, not at diamond bay, just to clarify things..and yes, it is still up and running..somehow. i suggest no one ever go there or 007, they're such a sleazeball hangouts now.
yasaka club and guava is where i frequent. sailing club has gone wayy downhill.
nha trang is great for like a week or so, super chill and relaxing, but i've been here too long it's driving me crazy. too much of a good thing i guess. i really wanna work in saigon. Quote:

I agree, but just warning you that it's the gangster region of vietnam. i've heard gruesome stories of gangsters killing people with hammers n shit. if you're in the club, just be aware of any fights, if any... drunk vietnamese barfights always end up being who can throw the most bottles and chairs lol

I havent been to Nha Trang for about 1.5 years now and I heard it had closed. Sailing club was pretty good last time I was there, but 1.5 years is a long time in Vietnam and its easy for things to go to shit fast. #1 used to be pretty good last I remember. Small interior but atmosphere was great.
Is Yasaka and Guava new? (opened last 2 years)

Sailing club is good if you like the same music they've been playing for 5 years, or if you don't wanna go home yet. it's only crowded there cause there's no place else to go at 12am. the only time i find worth going there is when they have their huge beach parties like once a month.
Yasaka just renovated this year, pretty much the owner of #1 and 007 took it over and poured a shitload of money into it.
Guava is a bar owned by 2 north vancouver guys. its been there for 6 years, and they just opened another location just a block away.

^yea pretty much all my cousins are soo honger'd out because korean music has such an impact there right now.
btw, try not wearing an expensive hat cause when i was there i was wearing my ed hardy hat and couple punks on a bike just did a fly by and took my hat right off my head and peaced it like no tomorrow.
another note is don't eat the "banh bao" they got strolling around; its pretty much like a "cha siu bao" (mind the spelling guys lol) because most of the time its been sitting there for a LONG time and the sellers are cheap and don't throw them out but they wanna sell it to make the extra cash.
Learned it the hard way... made the mistake of eating one of those and it gave me a really bad stomach ache.
You can also get like a large bowl of pho for like 7000-9000 VND and 1 CD= 15000-17000 VND.... you do the math LOL

If you read on wiki, they're actually expending the city.
