after passing the learners do they take your drivers license away and give you a piece of paper?

No. They give you a piece of paper for your 6L and you keep your driver's license. however, once you pass your 6 road test, they take away your plastic license, give you a temporary paper one, and then mail you a new plastic one.

what do you mean by learners (what class licence do you have)?
just to clarifty the previous post, they take it when you get your class 6 (full motorcycle)

if you have your class 5 they give you an additional piece of paper for your 6L, then take everything away when you get your 6
