SURREY, B.C. – 11 people including a woman are in custody after a forcible confinement incident and shooting in Surrey Saturday afternoon.
Surrey RCMP said they were called to a complaint of unlawful confinement and a shooting at residence in the area of 176 St and 96 Avenue where they found a group of people inside the residence with one man suffering from a gun shot wound.
RCMP’s heavily armed Emergency Response Team and a dog team was used to carry out arrests. One female tried to escape and was slightly hurt during the apprehension.
” The victim is cooperating with investigators and is a male in his mid 20s. He suffered a non life threatening gun shot wound,” police said in a statement.
“Eleven persons are under arrest, aged mid 20s to mid 30s. Most are known to Police. One female did suffer injuries when she tried to escape and RCMP Police Dog Services assisted,” police said.
The area is now cordoned off by police.
” Its believed that this is not a random act as the victim and suspects are known to each other,” police added.
96th Ave is closed to traffic west of 176th street to 173A Street. This is expected to last into the evening."
