I drive a S2000 and in order to change the DRL light bulbs, I will need to remove the front fenders and squeeze my hands into the housing. I can do it myself but I was working and the shop is just down stair, I figure they can probably get it done within 20 mins.

new altima's/maxima's in the owners manual says remove front bumper then remove headlight housing. Not recommended for consumer to change.
So if you brought it to Nissan it would be 3 Hours at $114 per hour plus materials. Its the same thing wheather is HID or just a regular Halogen Bulb.

i dont think the newspaper will give a damn about a person who paid $80 for a light bulb change.

if you have a picture of the guys face, then post it here.

One reason why I like older cars. More simple, less convoluted. A time where bumpers were black plastic or chrome and meant to be protection from being BUMPED, instead of getting scratched up requiring a few hundred dollars for new paint.

You dropped off a car, and didn’t ask them how much, what did you think was going to happen?

Shop charged you probably 1 hour labor (which I’m sure is the min charge) plus probably the cost of the bulbs. Seems to me like you got a fair deal. I wound assume the bulbs are 20 bucks. Which means 60 bucks an hour labor? That’s more than fair.

Seems like a job well done at a fair price to me. If you cant afford to take your car to a shop or just don’t want to pay for it, do it yourself. You don’t have anything to complain about.

I've changed the headlights and drl bulbs on my civic. It's a breeze if you have small hand which I dont. To change the passenger side low beam bulb you have to peel the splash guard under the fender. The others can be done from under the hood.

I changed DRL bulb on S2K on my friend's car, it's simple as 1-2-3

right side can be reached in from under the hood.
left side, at first glance, cannot
but you lift out the coolant reservoir bottle with a yank
and voila, surprise surprise! It's the same as the right side!

5minutes. Tops. $80 hawhawhaw. Next time post on RS's lighting and body tech first before you even go somewhere. That's what car clubs are for.

The minute you step foot into any kind of mechanic shop, always expect to shell out serious dollars, even for jobs that you would consider easy and quick.

The only way to avoid it:

Take it to a longtime mechanic you have years experience with who may extend a discount to you, depending on the task.

Or DIY.

$80 is probably the hourly rate. They probably rounded the time up.

anyone tried changing the driver side bulb on a yaris?! PITA! you have to take out the battery and remove the bolts for the fuse box so you can move it out the way. Also the rubber grommet is so damn tight to pull off too.

i get the feeling he doesn't really mean the DRL bulb, because he mentioned the fender liner. maybe he means the side amber things? you have to undo a couple of clips and crank the wheel to the side to get at each side, which sounds a LITTLE more reasonable to pay money for. just not $80. haha
