Buying a Jaguar X-type

I am looking at it lately hoping to replace my parent's 92' Protege with no airbag, no abs, 75hp, stick shift.

2001-2004. 2.0L V6 155hp or 2.5L V6 193hp
They are cheap, around 9K-13K here in Asia.
Compare the cheapest 3 series and C-class which go up to 15K+

I know it's a Ford, any particular problem with it?

These are pretty crappy cars if I rmbr correctly, not as bad as the S class, and reliability I believe is around the same if not better than the 203 c class, but that's not saying much, go for the 3 series IMO
I like the X's style but not worth it in the long run prolly

just did a quick google search, you guys are right.

the ford engine is reliable as said.
Let's see what people say...

1) gas leak (I guess an used car should have been fixed?)
2) trunk lock problem ^ should have been fixed?
3) hoses are not properly connected...that's scary
4) transmission problem....probably cost a lot
5) and a lot more here http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/jag...mments/page-5/

the car looks so nice, but I guess I should stay away...=/

Ford Mondeos are fairly robust in the UK (it is uk's favouriate mid-size 'saloon').. The X-type is essentially a Mondeo with Jaguar's upgraded interior trim, and freshened interior.. Those who are comparing the mechanics of this car to a S-type does not know WTF they're talking about..

If reliability is a concern, why not get a IS200/300?

^altezzas look old, an E46 sedan still looks good keke, or even a w203 can be a very enjoyable car if you keep it well, the style of those two are timeless

A 320i is more expensive than an IS300 because of the badge...

my friend, who's a mechanic also had this story about this car.

Where to change the sparkplugs of this car, they needed to remove the entire exhaust manifold, just to change spark plugs plus wait for the car to cool.

Say a 50-100 dollar job on a honda became a 800 dollar job on this car.

this is what I found online...

How do you change spark plugs on a jaguar x type please?

I have not done the job yet but this is what I am going to do. Remove plastic cover over the engine ( three screws) You then have access to the front three spark plugs ( cylinders 1,3,5) remove the nut which holds down the independant coils and remove the spark plugs, fit new spark plugs and fit coils on the three front cylinders.

Now it gets a little tricky, you will only be able to access number 2 back cylinder so you have to remove the induction manifold (12 bolts I think) to access the back three cylinders (2,4,6,) properly. Then proceed as with the front three spark plugs, refit manifold and plastic cover, job done.
I guess I would just change 1,2,3,5 cyclinder and not 4, 6...lol

^ That's when they come in next time to a different shop this time with 4 of the same branded sparkplug and 2 OEM sparkplugs. I've worked on many cars like that. Lol

If you're going for something that unreliable, why not go for an Alfa 156?

The only reliable Jaguars are XJs since the X350. The latest XKs.

The rest are crap.. well S types are marginal (unless it was the latest ones).

Honestly people here likes to make fun of people driving base 320i here.. calling them poseurs etc.. X type drivers are worst, they are akin being duped by Jaguar into buying a crappy Modeo, with nothing nice / worthy of a Jaguar.

I can't understand why you need AWD in HK either.

I love the people bashing the car because it's a ford. My cousin has a X-Type R and no problems with the car. It even has 120k on the clock.

Your cousin's X-Type R is as real as the unicorn. There is no X type R.
