It depends were you live. In vancouver being rich is different than Prince George. I think if you are not worried to hang out with "poor" people, you are not yet rich.

This is a hard question to answer because it's all relative.
For example. A guy making minimum wage in Canada, renting a gross apartment, just living from paycheque to paycheque is rich compared to a family in Africa where a family of 4 all working might make $3 a day.
I'm a member on 6speedonline and they are rich compared to the average revscene user.
Each person needs to define what rich is and that will be different things for different people. Any family income over $100,000 in Vancouver or GVRD is considered rich although due to upbringing and association, it feels average. Maybe even a bit poor.
If your idea of rich is a few homes worth a million a piece and a couple of nice cars (Bentley and Ferrari) it's not going to happen on $100,000k a year unless you're actively investing which I consider an extra job.
I used to think rich was when you stopped looking at the price tags and didn't calculate the bill in your head when ordering at dinner.
Ironically, the more money I make both in net worth and in my job, the more I look at price tags, refuse to buy things, and opt for water during dinner because I don't want to spend $1.25 on a pop.
Cheap? Probably. Wealthy? |

Just like investment property mortgage interest here in Canada. It means that you don't pay tax on the amout equal to the interest payments, it doesn't mean that you get the whole amount of interest back. For instance, if you pay $10k in interest on a mortgage, you might get $1500-$3000 back depending on your tax bracket. You're still paying $7000-$8500 in interest.

rich is a high net worth relative to your area. I could be rich if I moved to africa for example, but not so much here. wealthy is being rich enough to support your family over multiple generations.

^exactly!! Rich is having a high net worth. Check out the book 'Rich like them'
To be wealthy is to be financially free - to be able to pursue what you're passionate about. Being able to still have income generated despite quitting the 9-5job.
I'm not interested in being rich. There's no end to it. 10M, 20M,900B what's the difference? They're all financially free, so there is not qualitative difference between them.
But to be wealthy and not having to worry about money or work or whatever is concrete depending on your own financial situation.

I just let the credit card company determine if your rich .......If you spend-
U.S.- become a card holder included minimum spending of $250,000 in a 12 month period... and willing to dish out US$ 2,500 + One-time joining
fee of US$ 5,000. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centurion_Card
Canada- 1 Million CAD in Liquid Assets, Net Worth of 3 Million CAD or >.
* 250,000 or more Annual Income http://www.luxuryplastic.com/visa-in...lack-card-rbc/
So im guessing you met all the requirements that these cards require with no debt... your considered rich or the elite 1 percent of the population.

I would define it is being financially independent. Where you can choose if you'd like to work or not. To put a number on it? Networth exceeding $3MM. Problem in BC is that a lot of people are technically millionaires because of the astronomical real estate boom. Right place at the right time.

buying a million dollar houses definitely does not make you rich ... in asia a relatively standard apartment costs that much
i think being rich is just ... being able to afford luxuries at the blink of an eye ~ there is no actual amount of money you need to make a year to quality as being rich ... i think this is most obvious when you travel a lot you see all the different values and costs of living in different countries
as for wealth ... you can call it a state of mind but fuck that
the wealthy people own the rich people ~ end of story
